Melanie, I don't know who (what committee) etc. decides on state birds. I bet if Fla. residents were allowed to vote, there would be many suggestions other than the Mockingbird. With the Scrub Jay being endemic to Florida and found only in this state, I think it would be a great choice for state bird!
