Squash bugs entirely shut down my squash growing a few years ago.

They were overwintering in winter compost heaps and around the greenhouse ground connections. This thread has given me enough ideas to maybe try again. The populations are way down, but I know they'll be back. No SVB on the left side of the continent, thankfully (yet).

We mill our own flour every week, so that's an easy one. I interplant pretty heavily so I don't know if covers are possible, but I might be able to come up with something. I feel a twinge of hope coming on.

Maybe I'll try this Jarrahdale variety.
