I have Hidalgo in several places in my yard. It roots easily from any branch touching the ground or from a cutting. I really love the color of the blooms, but it tends to be a bit more lanky and long-branched here. The leaves sometimes have a reddish pink highlight to them. The branches tend to flop over because of the weight and length that they grow. That usually happens after a good rain, too. I've tried trimming them back to try to get the plants to be more dense and lush, but it tends to be more woody here. (Maybe it would grow better in a different climate. I don't know.) As the reason I grow most salvia, the blooms on Hidalgo attract hummingbirds. It also blooms year round here for me. The blooms are sporadic, even in a bud cluster, so it doesn't make a big statement of color. But it tolerates neglect and abuse (I dig them up to move them on occasion) and also grows well in partial shade. So it will remain in my garden.

I was surprised that I have not taken a photo and added it to the Plant Database. Will have to do that in the future. I recently pruned mine back, so it will be a while before it blooms again. Another month or so.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.
