It hit 27F last night. Goodbye dahlias and a lot of other things. In two weeks I will be digging dahlia tubers. Just received a box from Adelman's with 15 peonies that have to be put out. Thankfully I won't be digging the holes. They are going to the local botanical garden. Absolutely gorgeous tubers. All of them without exception. And many really larger than I have ever seen. We are experimenting at ABG (Alaska Botanical Garden) with three tree peonies. They have never grown trees peonies there but I think they will do okay provided they are placed in good sun. I have told them that they have a few that need to be moved due to bad drainage, poor planting or bad position to get max sun. We'll see.
