This is one plant; the part on the left appears to be an offshoot from the larger part on the right. It is so small but I am wondering if it is some type of tree or shrub. I was beginning to clear this area for some bare roots I will be getting soon, when I found this. It is interesting enough that I didn't just pull it. I really like the leaf shape.
Any ideas what this might be?
