You might be right to just walk away from this, CB.
The reason my cuttings are so long and so plump is because I have no "trees". I think that by having tree-size plants, small/short tips are hardened/mature enough for cutting/rooting. I have to bring every single plant inside for the fall/winter months, and thus have to keep my plumeria within 6-7' tall. Thus, by the time my newly formed tips/branches mature enough to root, they are long and thick. It is not unusual for my cuttings to be 1 1/2" thick and have an inflo, particularly the ones I take late summer. At least I think that's the difference between the way I grow and the way commercial growers do. I also have to take cuttings just before fall, which is not the ideal time, but I have no choice. I have to manage the size. Those cuttings generally will never root while they are dormant, so lots of cuttings will just sit in their perlite-filled buckets over the fall/winter months.
