I select a place with good drainage, depress my finger into the soil to the end of my fingernail and place the seed in that hole. I then cover it with soil. A little mulch over that and you are good to go. Fresh seed works great this way. If you have older seed, it may take longer than one season to germinate, but carefully mark you seed spot and watch the progress.
