I was kinda hoping someone would convince me it's not THAT bad, or that the odds don't get terrible unless we go another decade with "pollution as usual".

I really, REALLY want to believe it's not yet too late for corrective action ... but WHAT corrective action and HOW to finance it, motivate it for deniers, and then enforce it.

It sounds like China is taking a long view and starting to "do something" other than build coal power plants.
