Thanks Karen! I'd love to see some first year blooms, too! The last few years, feels like we went straight from crazy cold/snowy winter to summer and the peony blooms really suffered. Even so there were enough blooms to keep me enthusiastic. I'm really excited about this year's roots, there are several that have been on my "Wanted" list for some time that were available this year. I swear I'm going to slow down next season and just enjoy the ones I have instead of ordering more....
I'm still waiting for 4 orders, Bannisters, Hidden Springs, Hollingsworth and Tree Peony Garden. I really hope I don't get them on the same day! I've been able to keep up with planting okay so far, only issue was receiving Adelmans on a Monday. Hope the rest come in over the next 2-3 weeks on a Thursday or Friday!
I normally work 4 days/week anyway so I should have plenty of time to enjoy the blooms. I fell into the habit last spring of taking pictures of peony growth/buds/flowers each evening when I got home and putting them on my computer/naming and all on my last workday, that seemed to work pretty well.
Still working on the last weeding of the season and putting down fresh mulch. I probably still have more than half of the 20 yards we had delivered to put on beds. I'm HOPING there will be some left over, don't think I really have that many square feet of garden....guess I'll see over the next several weeks. Still no predictions for our first hard freeze this year, hope it holds off until well into November!
