According to Wikipedia the food for the capterpillar in my yard...
"The larvae feed on Borreria, Catalpa, Manettia, and Pentas species, and Spermacoce glabra, Hamelia patens, Hedyotis nigricans, Heimia salicifolia, Psychotria microdon, Psychotria nervosa, and Inga vera."
Once I translate that into plain English I'll figure out what the heck the little guy was doing in my yard. I don't recognize any of the botanical names.
Edited to add:
I checked each of the plants.
Borreria alata seems to be a synonym for the Spermacoce alata and (without glasses) looks almost exactly like the Richardia scabra in my yard; maybe to the caterpillars they are close enough. The Spermacoce glabra also looks very similar also but with more flowers.
