Hi - Will try to answer all questions...I wrote another post today, not sure where it is. In it I answer some of your questions.

I do grow many of them in pots. I find it easier to control the moisture in pots...and I make a specific mixture for containers, according do Dan Heims's book. Some are in full sun until noon or so. But most are dappled shade or sun in early morning and then again in late afternoon.

Successful dividing? I'm just learning about being successful at dividing. To encourage growth, I use either alfalfa meal mixed in the soil or slow-release fertilizer (Osmacote). I keep the soil for the 'babies' slightly moist. But I've had heuchs peter out on me and only lately learned what to do. I've read several 'Net articles about rejuvenating heuchs that were helpful -and, also Dan's book.

Yes I overwinter in the pots. We had a brutal winter this past year, and the only protection most of my heuchs got was being moved to the east side of the house. I think I only lost two or three (out of 40-50). This winter I'll definitely mulch some of the smaller and newer ones that are farther out of the ground.

Dan's book: Well, I learned more about heuchs, but I think the book could have been more in depth. Most of it was listing cultivars and their hybridizers. And he definitely needs to do a revision soon to add all the new cultivars that he and others have intro'd, and maybe with the info on Terra Nova's plants that he puts in his catalogs. (Like which ones are best for landscapes, for northern climates, etc.)

Thank you for the warm welcome ;-)
