I was born in Oakland CA but have lived in Alaska for over 60 years. Like it here fine. I could never tolerate your heat, especially on the coast where you get humidity also. You are right. Our issues are very different but I think overall you have the more difficult task. At least my weather is somewhat balanced summer versus winter. Seems like you have a choice between hot and hottest.
