I've grown it outside in a container under the shade of an oak tree. Twice. White veined leaves once and pink/red veined leaves once. It did really well, but neither time was I successful at overwintering it. I have poor storage for overwintering plants inside during the winter months and that is dreadfully compounded by my habits and attitude toward them when they are inside. I liked it really well outdoors, though. I guess it would sort of be an annual for me. I'm not sure I'd even try to overwinter it again.
