Growing up as I did, with an English father who was true to the tradition of English cooking (as much as he was able), I got several basic dishes he did. He was really a "meat and potatoes" man! Very basic foods.
I learned Scottish cooking when I got much older.
We had "Farmer's Carrot Pudding" for Christmas - a suet pudding with carrots and potatoes ground up; stewed fruit for desserts; creamed turnips, potted meats, custard pies, etc.
I'm getting "back to the basics" myself. Today I'll make my homemade soup - veggie & beef. Drooling
