It was done in May 2013. No chipping or anything else that would be considered ugly at all. I think it absorbs sound a bit, much like if it had linoleum over concrete. Softens sound, I think. I'm very happy with it and don't plan to change it anytime soon. It isn't as dusty as I thought it would be either, just very good floor cover.
A solid color would be much easier to paint. I was just trying for that mottled color effect.
