I mostly stay away from the pricy ones too - Last year was actually the first time in years I have bought new ones. I have been trading exclusively, and that comes to about a dollar a tuber for postage - so if they don't grow well, I am not so miffed. 2 of the 5, I paid full price for last year didn't grow for me. ( I do think it was my fault - not the grower)
I did put in an order with Blossom Gulch Dahlias - I couldn't resist their new anemone (yes top dollar) also bought three of their orchid dahlias. I am loving the orchids.

Mary - I sure don't envy with you dealing with your pond in that kind of weather - you are a brave soul. Hearing about it makes me feel much better about WI weather.
