I took a look back...
most of those tulips pictured are kaufmanniana types, and a humilis--
the one with the gorgeous spotted leaves, no blooms, is a gregii.

Although I am not always successful in getting them as deep as I want, I find that planting the bulbs deeper than usual/recommended does help.

Since then, I have really become enamored of the clusiana types

for the rock garden because they don't have leaves that annoy me while I wait for them to die back!
They should be good to zone 3

I also planted more of this one, T. whittallii, this year
Thumb of 2015-11-11/dirtdorphins/e915a0
needed more with that rock Hilarious!
