Oh this could be bad. It just occurred to me how much scion wood/buds I toss in the garbage with every wedding! I often see perfect buds for grafting onto a rootstock on cut rose stems, I would have to try most of them!

Multiflora roots grow really big here. I was planting bulbs a couple of weeks ago and ran into this long woody root. Couldn't figure out where it was coming from at first and followed it to one of the Kordes roses from Palatine I planted this spring! I was over 3 feet from the rose. Well, I'm assuming that root was from the multiflora rootstock, but it could be from above the bud union. I need to check...
"...and don't think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It's quiet, but the roots are down there riotous." Rumi
