I am not so surprised of the drought tolerance. Living in Europe I have it often found high up in f.e. Spanish mountains like Pyrennees and Sierra Nevada, usually quite abundant on the dry site of these (which are very dry indeed!). High up in these mountains also explains its cold tolerance. They are very adaptable and will also grow in my own backyard (rather cold and wet compared to their natural habitat). They will even thrive under these conditions but... the scent and taste... it's ok but just not that of a high mountain grown plant!
