I have to agree with Sandy's definition. Winter is more about the weather than the calendar. It has been starting in October or November the last couple years... if the "extended forecast" is to be believed, we won't see it until January this time around. Even if it snows nonstop from then until April, it will be milder than any winter I've seen here.
I think optimism is as necessary as mittens or a shovel for getting through a Michigan winter
