Well, I got my first pictures of my little feathered hummingbird friend tonight. It was a little too dark, but hey, it's a start.
Hung out my second hummingbird feeder this morning. While Yvonne and I ate breakfast on the patio a hummingbird flew in, checked out the feeder and then flew off again. But at least they are finding that one too! I confused a Blackcapped Chickadee that was used to eating at the regular seed feeder that was there until this morning. He even tried to stick his beak into the opening of the feeder. That was funny!
Put my hummingbird feeder out this summer for the first time in 20 years because one of my neighbors saw one at his feeder. I tried 20 years ago and gave up. Especially after the ants found it! But when I put my feeder out this year i actually got one that started coming to feed several times a day. Really little! But yesterday and today it was flying around like it was drunk! I couldn't figure out what was going on. Went out this evening when it was doing that to check out why. Turns out there was a bee on the feeder and they were doing combat every time the hummer tried to eat. But, then I saw an encouraging sight! A second hummingbird came to feed. First time I've seen two here. But the little one chased the other one (larger) away. But now that I know there are at least two in our neighborhood tomorrow I will put out our second feeder! And, buy a second ant moat. This is getting fun! Cooked up a second pot of nectar for them.
Yea! The potting bench is finished and everything is where it is supposed to be! Took Waaaayy longer than I thought it would, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. And more importantly, so is my wife!!! This gives me a potting bench that has multiple uses. My next project is building a garden bench. I actually plan to build 3 so we will be able to enjoy our garden from three different perspectives. This "potting bench" will also serve as a work bench when I build them.
Well, today begins the actual physical building of a potting bench for my "garden shed" area. I'm tired of the mess, and the little tiny potting bench my wife let me borrow just isn't big enough any more. So after countless hours watching YouTube videos on how to do it, I settled on this one, with some slight modifications. I will raise the back shelf by 12" and put a back on it so I can hang small hand tools; and I won't knock off the corners of the bottom shelf.
