A note from Bonehead

I am located in north Snohomish County, Washington, Zone 8b, a temperate rain foresty region. I rarely get snow, extreme cold, or extreme heat. Global warming, however, is changing the last one and we now get summer temps that are uncomfortably hot for me (anything over 30 C). I use this feature as a mini-database of my plants - both those within my tended beds/yard and those in my wild areas. The dates for plant events (budding, flowering, etc.) are ranges, not necessarily inclusive on both ends.

Blood Currant (Ribes sanguineum)	Have Shrub Native	May self-sow. Hillside right 2011. Classic Nursery Buds mid Jan Blooms early Mar - late Apr

Thimbleberry (Rubus nutkanus)	Have Shrub Native Edible	Insipid soft berries, the birds like them. Easy to pull where not wanted. Beautiful fall color.
Salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis)	Have Shrub Native Edible	In woods understory. Juicy but bland berries, sometimes get a really sweet one as a treat. 2017, 20 pots planted by SCCD along front creek. Breaks dormancy early Mar Blooms mid Mar - mid May Berries early May - mid Jun
