Annuals
Cottage Garden
Perennials
Plants are vigorous and free flowering. Note that after blooms drop, they leave behind chocolate-capped seed pods. Are annuals, so save seed for winter sowing and seed exchange. WINTER SOWING note: I no longer use the toilet paper tubes. Better to use no dividers at all, or winter sow in tote red cups or in 2023, Dixie cups. Tubes were much too drying. January 13, 2021: Seeds sown (New seeds from Botanical Interests, Winter Sown on Jan 13, 2021)
March 13, 2021: Seeds germinated (One of the first to germinate. Great! New annual.)
May 24, 2021: Maintenance performed (Plants did less well with cardboard tube subdivisions in WS jug. Using different methods in 2022.)
January 23, 2022: Seeds sown (Winter Sowed seeds in Tote - Red Cup containers AND in a WS jug. Seed from Baker Creek. )
January 26, 2022: Seeds sown (Winter Sowed more red cups and one more WS jug.)
May 15, 2022: Transplanted (Planted in new bed, removed burning bush. Used both red cup transplants and winter sown jug seedlings.)
February 3, 2023: Seeds sown (Using Dixie cups this year. Will transplant when seedlings are SMALL to help prevent transplant shock.)
February 12, 2023: Seeds sown (Tried the stones & sand method of direct sowing today using leftover seed saved from this past year. Planted in front garden bed, south east, to the left of our Star Magnolia.)
May 1, 2023: Transplanted (Set out in several garden spaces in the front yard, after hardening off for a few days outdoors.)
July 1, 2023: Bloomed (Front yard gardens.)
April 13, 2024: Seeds sown (In the front yard, spreading self-collected seed.)

Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana)

Perennials
An aggressive perennial that has to be held in check. Years ago, it completely took over a bed of lilies I was growing. It also spreads seed everywhere, has aggressive roots. I still have it (unlike lemon balm, which I won't grow again), but manage it carefully. When I can, I'll replace it with a less aggressive cultivar.

Robust rose is long lived, blooms into November. Does best when roots are not crowded by other plants.

I grew this for many years in my back garden by the birdbath. It is carefree. I transplanted to a rose garden at my church.
