[ Split Cupped Collar Daffodil (Narcissus 'Shrike') | Posted on April 13, 2019 ]

Shrike's corona is yellow upon opening and matures through yellow orange into a beautiful coral pink over a couple days.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Simply Coral') | Posted on June 2, 2016 ]

Really nice performance late in the season and good growth here. It's one of the last irises blooming in my garden. Flowers are not large, but there are a lot of them, and it puts on a good show! Color carries well from a distance.

[ Stokes' Aster (Stokesia laevis 'Peachie's Pick') | Posted on January 7, 2016 ]

Peachie's Pick was recommended to me by my local nursery. I've found it easy to grow and very forgiving. It was given little supplemental watering, and it put on a great show. Deadhead for extended bloom time. It is evergreen in my zone 6b garden. Mulch is recommended for zone 5 by many sources. Great plant!

[ Scarlet Firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea 'Lowboy') | Posted on December 5, 2015 ]

Lowboy has bright orange berries in fall that persist through winter. It has low water use once established. Note that it is susceptible to scab. Leaves can become chlorotic in alkaline soil. Prune in late winter to early spring.

[ Willow Oak (Quercus phellos) | Posted on September 17, 2015 ]

Willow Oak's preferred growing environment is moist bottom land, but it will tolerate a range of soils. Once established, it also tolerates drought.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Topguns Pleasant Surprise') | Posted on September 6, 2015 ]

Runner up for the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Eugene S. Foster Award for best late blooming cultivar.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Topguns Apache War Paint') | Posted on September 2, 2015 ]

AHS note on form says that Topguns Apache War Paint doubles 85% of the time.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Lotta Dotta') | Posted on August 21, 2015 ]

The first bloom on Lotta Dotta really surprised me. It didn't have dots and it had a purple edge. I contacted Bill Maryott to review my photo of the bloom posted above to see whether it was the right plant, and he assured me that it was. He let me know that Lotta Dotta is HIGHLY variable in its dotting and coloring, and sometimes dotting is not present. The dotting you see on Bill's lead picture was on a bloom when it was very cool. He also let me know that Lotta Dotta is pod and pollen fertile, and its dots are a dominant trait, so there are dotted children in the first generation.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Panama Jack') | Posted on July 26, 2015 ]

I saw this plant across a grower's field, putting on an awesome show. Very floriferous! Large flower, great color, nice height, and four branches too.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Sun Dried Tomatoes') | Posted on July 26, 2015 ]

I purchased this plant from a grower's field on a late July mid-afternoon. In spite of mid 90 degree heat, the blooms were still gorgeous. Definitely sunfast. Each scape had three-four nice branches.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'South Seas') | Posted on July 18, 2015 ]

South Seas is an exceptional daylily in my opinion. Its bloom is a vibrant coral color in full sun and it is sunfast. Its color carries very well over a distance in a landscape. For me, it usually has four nicely spaced branches, it blooms a long time, and it increases well. This is a daylily I wouldn't want to be without!

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Shiraz') | Posted on June 20, 2015 ]

Shiraz is vigorous in its growth. It is a gorgeous flower, but it is not rust resistant.

[ Flowering Crabapple (Malus 'Snowdrift') | Posted on April 12, 2015 ]

Buds are bright pinkish red, but blooms open white.

[ Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Honky Tonk Blues') | Posted on November 30, 2014 ]

Schreiner's website says 'Honky Tonk Blues' has a strong stem with three branches and a spur showcasing 10 buds.

[ Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum 'Caddo') | Posted on October 15, 2014 ]

Discovered in Caddo county Oklahoma. Does not like to be irrigated. This tree stands up to drying winds & heat.

[ Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis) | Posted on September 6, 2014 ]

Chinese Pistache has beautiful fall color, and is heat & drought tolerant. It has a moderate growth rate with a nice shape at maturity when grown in full sun. It has few pests, but can get Verticillium wilt (rare) & Phytophthora root rot .

Female trees produce berries that can generate a large number of seedlings if a male tree is living in proximity for wind pollination. In light of this, you might consider planting only male trees such as 'Keith Davey,' a fruitless male clone.

Reported to be invasive in some counties of states such as Texas, California, Oklahoma, Alabama & North Carolina.

[ Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis 'Abylos') | Posted on June 26, 2014 ]

'Abylos' has been a VERY dependable bloomer for me. I've had it since 2003 & it has flowered every year, but one or maybe two. Its blooms last a long time for me. When it's done, I cut the spike back a little & it usually reblooms from that too.

[ Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Ozark Garden Gem') | Posted on June 15, 2014 ]

Maryott notes that there are usually about 14 buds but there are multiple scapes.

[ Globe Amaranth (Gomphrena globosa) | Posted on June 11, 2014 ]

EXCELLENT long blooming annual providing lots of color with very low maintenance. GREAT cut & dried flower.

[ Bee Balm (Monarda 'Purple Rooster') | Posted on June 7, 2014 ]

Reported to be VERY mildew resistant.
