Crockett is a filet bean. Pods are very slender, but can reach 6 inches in length. Good disease package (Intermediate resistance to BCMV (BV-1 and NY 15), Bean Rust, Halo Blight (race 2) and Curly Top Virus.) We have had a very unusual spring colder than normal in March and April, much hotter than normal in May and June. Crockett did not perform as well as expected. It seems more heat intolerant than standard snap beans. Second trial in 2019 did not fare any better. Not suited for this area.

An se hybrid bicolor. It is a week or more later than Cuppa Joe so it is not as early as Ferry Morse suggests. Ears are a nice size 8 inch with 14 to 16 rows. Excellent flavor and texture.

This is a large bean that performs reasonably well. Falls well short of Jumbo in this category. Medium yield on tall plant. There is some tendency for plant to fall over. Grade "C"

Trying to stay positive, I would say that the only trait that is commendable is that it is early. Listed at 73 days ( a second early), it beat the early Silver N Gold by a week. It does produce, but ears are small. Neither as tender or as sweet as its competitors. On an A to F scale I have to grade it C. Not one I will use as a standby.

Granex 33 Is an improved version of the Yellow Granex which started the "Vidalia" onion. It is one of the two dozen or so varieties approved for growing under the Vidalia label. Good performer. The difference in this type of onion is in disease resistance, production and maturity dates. On the market they all look the same.

This is a top notch Grano type hybrid. Good germination, vigorous growth, and large size. It is a late season variety ( a few weeks later than Vidalia types). Well worth waiting for. Stores better than Granex types.

While I had some problems with germination with this variety, those that germinated grew well. It is a large red onion with excellent color and flavor. It has a bit later maturity than others in its class.

A yellow crookneck that is a bit different. It has vertical ridges and white stripes. some of them have a green dipped blossom end. Texture is a bit harder than other crooknecks. It is quite early and prolific. My control for this year is Gold Star. Already picked a half bushel of Tempest, Gold Star is still a few days away. Flavor is good.

Performs well. Not my favorite as it becomes woody quicker than other varieties that I grow. It is dependable, Just don't leave it too long in the ground.

One of the older hybrids that is still popular. 3 lb. very solid round head. Dependable. One of the earliest to produce

Not impressed with this cultivar. While listed as 52 day DTM, it was slower than broccoli listed at 68 days. This has not been a good season for cauliflower as we went rapidly from winter to summer. Dry with temps in middle 90's. I am getting heads, but they are not very pretty.

An excellent performer, which is among the earliest that I have tried. Great shape, color, and taste.

Luna is real winner here. Much earlier than advertised, very vigorous and prolific. Heads are large, tender and delicious. It also follows the main head with side shoots. It is going on my A list.

A semi afila type that performs reasonably well here. Not as prolific as Green Arrow or Penelope.

An excellent spinach variety,

Similar to Mei Quing Choi in size and growing habit. It is a bit more vigorous and darker shade of green. Does well here.

This was the standard for winter storing when I was young. In central Virginia they were transplanted in early July for harvest in October. Stored in a root cellar or Kiln, they would keep until early spring. Large heads averaging about 12 lbs. It was an excellent boiling cabbage in a time when boiling cabbage down was norm. Not as tender as spring or summer cabbages.

Kieffer is an old time fall pear. Large with good shape but is prone to developing gritty flesh. Tolerates fire blight. Excellent flavor.

The earliest ripening rabbiteye that I grow. Not quite as early as the southern highbush. bright color and good flavor.

In this area, the Carolina Cherry Laurel is a quite attractive small evergreen tree. It is laden with small white blossoms in the early spring and attracts a large number of bees. The small black berries are attractive to wild life. On the negative side, it is very difficult to control. It propagates by both seeds and the root system and is very fast growing. One tree becomes a thousand quickly.
