[ Tickseed (Coreopsis Li'l Bang™ Starstruck) | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

Hurrah! I have the 1st ever flowers on the plants I bought last summer from Santa Rosa Gardens. They came as a small clump, so I put them in a large pot on my patio. I guess they were immature, so didn't bloom but grew well. In March 2018 I separated 8 plants out of that clump and planted them in a circle around the base of a birdbath in my yard. They get full sun and are loaded with buds. They are as pretty as the pictures I'd seen that made me want them and order them on line.

[ Mexican Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica 'Silky Deep Red') | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

I started plants from seed 5 years ago and now they return each spring here in zone 9 from roots and volunteers. June 1, 2018 I saw the 1st flowers of this year on 3' plants. Yes, now I see butterflies regularly. Last year they grew 5 feet tall and bloomed into fall. So pretty and colorful and easy to grow.

[ Amaryllis (Hippeastrum 'Minerva') | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

My clump finished blooming about May 15, 2018 here in zone 9 and went to seed. I noticed today the pods have split, so I caught the black seeds and put them in a packet for the next seed swap.

[ Crinum 'Ellen Bosanquet' | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

I have the 1st beautiful blooms of 2018 opening June 12. I'm in south Louisiana zone 9. I started with 1 bulb I bought at a plant sale 5 years ago. That bulb has sprouted 2 more, so it is a nice clump this year, making several flower stems that will open over the next month. The leaves are now getting 3 feet long. Massive!

[ Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'Hamabo') | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

I got seeds for these in the seed swap here Nov. 2017. I planted them Feb 1st, 2018 indoors and they have grown very well. I have 5 plants that are now 6 inches tall with 5 nice leaves each. At present they are in 4" pots on my porch, where they get filtered sun most of the day. I water them every 5 days with rain water from my rain barrel. By fall I'll have to move them up to 6" pots. I can hardly wait for their lovely flowers I've seen in pictures. Maybe by next year they will be old enough for flowers.

[ Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum var. oxycardium 'Brasil') | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

I have this unique plant 'Brasil' from 3 small cuttings I got in a trade 2 years ago. They rooted well in water and have grown into a nice trailing plant with three 8" vines. No two leaves are alike. A couple are all cream colored with no green. It's on an east windowsill in my bathroom, where it thrives in the humid environment. From time to time I move it to the windowsill over my sink so visitors can see this interesting plant. The light there is very filtered west sun through trees. I think it would be ok growing there, too.

[ Stonecrop (Hylotelephium erythrostictum 'Frosty Morn') | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

I have a hanging basket of it from a small start I got in a trade 2 years ago. It overgrew another pot, so I took cuttings and rooted them in the present basket and gave the other one away. It's a lovely succulent plant that grows fast. Mine thrives in morning filtered sun where it hangs, and I water it every few days. The 1st pot bloomed beautifully twice, but my latest hasn't yet. I tried growing some in the ground in a flower bed, but snails love it, so I went to hanging baskets and that's working well. No snails.

[ Turk's Cap (Malvaviscus arboreus var. drummondii) | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

I have this red flowering plant but with variegated leaves that I bought from Almost Eden Plants here in Louisiana last fall. It has grown to double its size and now in June is in full bloom. It looks like a lit-up flocked Christmas tree with red lights. I love it! I will take a picture and post it when I can.

[ Rose (Rosa 'Old Blush, Cl.') | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

What a hardy rose. I've had mine for 4 years, climbing against a 6' wooden fence. This year, 2018, it bloomed all of April and May, then started growing 12" a week, adding 4' in length to all branches so far. I tie it to my back wood fence with fishing line. It is about to bloom again in mid summer and then again in fall.

[ Swiss Cheese Plant (Monstera obliqua 'Leichtlinii') | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

We had an unusually cold winter 2017 for zone 9 and my large plant died back even after being brought into the shelter of my garage, but by April 1 all new growth started from the 4" base that was left, and now in June it's rebounded already to branching 10 inches in all directions. It grows under my porch where it gets bright light all day and I water it once a week.

[ Urn Plant (Aechmea fasciata) | Posted on June 12, 2018 ]

Hurray! I found a flower forming in my 4-year-old plant on 6-12-18. I got it in a trade as a 3-inch pup. It is now a pretty silvery green plant 15 inches high and 18 inches wide . All this time it's been in the same place under my porch where it gets bright light all day. I water it in the center and soil once a week with rain water I collect in a nearby barrel. I'll post a photo of it in flower later when it blooms.

[ Flame Violet (Episcia 'Silver Skies') | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

I bought a plant of this mini episcia about 8 months ago. It has grown slowly, mostly because it won't get nearly the size of my regular ones. A month ago it started blooming small red flowers against its pointed 1-inch silvery leaves for a beautiful combination. At this time the 5-inch plant has started branching out with stolons in 3 directions for a cute but small hanging plant. It gets the same 10+ hours of combined natural then artificial light as my others. I also keep its soil evenly moist at all times and it's loving it.

[ Episcia (Episcia cupreata 'Pink Panther') | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

I have a nice plant of this I got in a trade about 4 years ago. The dark marked leaves are attractive and a nice backdrop to the pink flowers it makes off and on year round. I keep its soil moist and give it 4 hours of filtered sun in an east window then 8 hours under my SunBlaster light a day. It seems very happy and sends out stolons that make it a lovely hanging plant. Episcias are a very easy-to-grow houseplant that flowers.

[ Episcia 'Pink Dreams' | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

Oh, so pretty! I bought a small 2-inch plant 8 months ago for its pink, cream, and green combination leaf color. It has grown slowly, but recently grew another inch and sent out 2 small stolons. I can hardly wait to see it in bloom with pink flowers. I have 5 varieties that grow on a shelf by an east window that gets filtered morning sun and then 7 hours of supplemental light under my Sunblaster light. I keep the soil of all slightly damp at all times and they are thriving. They are a lot easier to keep happy than the related african violets.

[ Mexican Honeysuckle (Justicia 'Sidicaro') | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

This justicia plant variety called "Mexican Honeysuckle" has large shiny leaves so I refer to it as 'Sidicaro' because I have another justicia plant called "Mexican Honeysuckle" that has 2" leaves that are fuzzy. 'Sidicaro' makes a pompom-like cluster, whereas the other makes individual 1" to 2" pips on branch ends. Both have orange blooms and attract hummingbirds. 'Sidicaro' is very colorful several times a year when it can have a dozen of the 3" pompoms blooming at the same time. My 3'x2' bush is like that at this time, 6-11-18.

[ Coleus (Coleus scutellarioides Henna) | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

A neighbor here in zone 9 grew this as a 3' hedge across her house front. She gave me rooted cuttings she had in water ready to pot up. I put 3 in a 2-gallon chartreuse-green pot because it matched the color of the top side of the young leaves that were burgundy on the edge and underside. They grew well in a "morning sun only" spot on my patio. By fall the aging leaves got henna-gold colored on the top side. They got nipped on the tips by an unexpected frost, so I cut back to 6", putting the cuttings in water for new plants. From then on through winter I brought it into my garage when temps fell into the 30s. It survived and sprouted out beautifully in March and has grown to 30" again by June 10, 2018.

[ Echeveria (Echeveria runyonii 'Topsy Turvy') | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

I've had my plant 3 years and it's filled a 6" quart size pot. I love its blue-green color. Mine hasn't bloomed yet. It grows well on a baker's rack shelf under my south-facing porch, where it gets bright light all day and filtered morning sun only. I let the soil dry out before watering it about once a week with rain water I collect in a nearby rain barrel.

[ Krimson Princess Hoya (Hoya carnosa 'Rubra') | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

I recently bought a small 6" hanging pot with 3 starts at a local plant sale. I've had the green leafed one with creamy flowers for about 15 years, so just had to have this colorful one with burgundy stems and leaf edges that makes a pink flower. Hoyas do very well hanging under my porch where they get filtered morning sun only and water I give them when needed. It's 6-11-18 and my green one has been sending out new growth for a month, so I'll have flowers this summer. They are so pretty hanging over the edge of the oversized hanging basket it grows in. About once a year in fall I give it a haircut to keep it in bounds, and I use the cuttings to root new plants to share or trade.

[ Coral Bells (Heuchera villosa 'Pinot Gris') | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

I started mine from seeds I got in a seed swap here in Jan. 2017. I planted them Feb.1, '17 and they've grown well and beautiful. They are a reddish burgundy and came true from seeds. Other colors like Stainless Steel & Marvelous Marbles did not come true from seed and are a muddy brown color.

[ Coral Bells (Heuchera 'Brownies') | Posted on June 11, 2018 ]

I started my plants from seeds I got in a seed swap here in Jan. 2017 labeled 'Brownies'. I planted them Feb. 1, '17 and they grew well. This spring I planted them in pots and the new leaves for 2018 were very brown on some while other plants are a bright chartreuse green. Both are pretty with the large 3" to 4" leaves. I don't understand why some plants are different colors, but it's ok as they are all healthy and nice. I will see if their flower color is the same.
