I love gardening & love to share.
Have any of you had luck in propagating Lady Banks (Rosa Banksiae) by cuttings? I tried a few years ago with no luck. I read that you can do so. Mine has had the most beautiful yellow flowers for the last few years; and I would like to propagate it for a couple of friends and myself. I understand this is the time of year to root it from cuttings; but that is all I know. Here is a picture of how long the branches are -I have cut it back some.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thank you!!

Wow, does yours have any support? How long have you had it there? A pretty once-bloomer but it can get huge but I guess you have to stay on top of it with pruning.

I found this great article on rooting them from someone who had tried all the methods.

Thanks Cali_Sue. Yes it does have support; and it has been cut back several times (each year); however, I love how it looks when it has so many beautiful blooms on it. I have "heard" that the Rosa Banksiae rose is harder to propagate than the regular roses. I will digest the article and see if it tells me anything differently from what I have read and tried in the past. Thank You!

I too heard she was had to root so I pinned a long cane to the ground with a brick, and after several months looked to discover it had rooted there. I cut it away from the mother plant, dug it up, and planted it on its own.

I also meant to ask if I can put the cuttings in water for a day or two and then put them into the soil to root -or should I take the cuttings directly from the bush to the soil? Thanks. Group hug

Hi Pat, I'm in zone 8 - northwest Louisiana - so in a similar climate to you. I've had great success rooting all kinds of plants using a Forsythe pot. (https://www.gardeningknowhow.c...)

I use vermiculite instead of perlite and almost everything I stick takes root, including Lady Banks rose. Give it a shot. Good luck with your garden endeavors!!
