Saw this rose in April. Was amazed by the massive full flowers. Don't seems have much fragrance.
Checked the database, seems similar to Rouge Royale, but I never have chance to.see the RR in person.
I am interested in getting one red old rose. Is RR the one or DA heathcliff?
Thank you!
Holy cow!!!! Those are gorgeous!!!! I don't know what they are...but they're stunning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope someone here can recognize it!!! Wowza!!!

@Lynnez, @Zuzu seems to have direct knowledge about RR, (she has posted RR pics in the data-base here). HMF says it is very fragrant (?? ). Also HMF ratings for Heathcliff reaches just good. When you say an red old rose do you mean an OGR? None of these are such....however I wouldn't mind having either/both of them in my imaginary yard ... Both are unavailable here.
Arturo
Thank you, Tarak ! I like rose with very full patels. None of them in my area either. I have to order online. But sometimes the online photos are different.
It does look like a Romantica rose, and both Francois Rabelais and Rouge Royale are Romantica roses. I'd say it's closer to Rouge Royale. Francois Rabelais is a true red, while Rouge Royale is a dark red with more blue in the color as the bloom matures. This picture of Rouge Royale looks just like the second and third photos posted by Lynnez.
Thank you so much, Zuzu!
I 'd love to have a true red rose. From romantica website it seems like true red. But grower's photo may be more closer to the real color
My Munstead Wood does fine in the heat here. It is a beautiful red color that will turn to fuchsia when it gets super hot. It does tend to grow sideways but it got big on its own root the first year I planted it. Nice fragrance. I really like this rose as does everyone in the neighborhood.
It tends to be a deeper dark red but my phone doesn't take pictures of red objects very well.
Thank you,@mustbnuts, DA seems have neat petals than romantica. Your color is much prettier than the DA web photo which is too dark for me.
BTW, it is hard to take pictures of red flowers.
Here is the official photo of it.
Tess of the d'Urbervilles is a good red Austin. As you can see from the photos in our database, it's a true red in sunlight and a darker red in the shade.
Amongst many others DAustin US carries it https://www.davidaustinroses.c...
This particular DA can be found this far south but it hasn't reached my yard...yet.
After all selecting a rose is a fun project in itself and you seem to have strung a chord in me. Actually my purpose is to allow other further readers to understand their options beyond what you end in your personal choice, so excuse us if we suggest too much

Arturo,
Haha, you are so funny!!!
Yes, this is on the list too. A friend of mine has it but I have never seen it. It is perfect in the picture.
Wish there is a place I can go and see all the candidates side by side. LOL
I use to have Rouge Royale and it has a very strong and fruity fragrance similar to other Romanticas like Centennial Star and Bolero (although Bolero has more citrus notes to it).
It could be Traviata or Pink Traviata which are both sort of lacking in the scent department.
I plan on replacing my Rouge Royale if I ever see it again for sale. The color is a little bit different than most red roses (think Benjamin Britten but not so jarring).
Lynnez - that last picture is swoon-worthy!!!! I noticed that it's copyrighted by you! That's YOUR picture???!!! It's glorious!!! I am soooo impressed!!!!
