One of my faves, Philodendron gloriosum. I love the velvety look to the leaves. This one is a creeper, it makes trunks that spread and creep and new plants come up along the length of the trunk (from below and above ground). What's your fave?

This is such a beautiful plant! It's been on my wish list forever, but I'm always afraid to go ahead and buy, because I think I'll kill it by not being able to give it ideal conditions.
I'm so happy that you posted about it. Does it require high humidity? Will it survive in humidity of 35-50?

It does like a lot of humidity. It is also a water lover when planted into the ground. I have not grown in in containers so I don't know how it responds that way. It will survive a brief foray of cold and drought but not too many episodes. It will lose its top growth and if the trunk does not freeze it will slowly come back. It is good paired with Philodendron mamei because they have the same growth habit

This is one of my favorite Philodendrons but I really know very little about it. I have had it since about 2012 or so, I got it as a trade, and it was called 'Zulu Prince'. It is a slender climber, in high light the leaves get very dark. If grown in shade they fade to a more maroon-ish color. It has the wrong leaf shape for an erubescens and I think it may be in the same group somehow as 'Ace of Spades' with the more triangular leaves. It does not seem as large growing though. Seen here with a calathea. I'd appreciate any knowledge anyone might have on the parentage of this hybrid

Philodendron (Philodendron gloriosum) is so pretty; I've never grown it but I saw it at the local botanical gardens here in Vero Beach a few years ago. I really love those dark leaves on Zulu Prince! Lovey dubby

I have so many that I'd love to have but with not getting any younger, I have to keep myself in check. Green Grin!

@plantladylin I am doing the same thing. I was looking around today and realized that even with everything I have lost over the years, after 'retaking' the greenhouse back from neglect in August 2018 until now, I really am blessed to have as much left as I do now.
Since the resurrection, after all the clean up, rehabbing, replanting etc, I have made a handful of trades and bought very few things. I guess I figure that now, if I can't trade for it or find it as a surprise at a large discount, I probably don;t need to be collecting it. So I have made a pact with myself to do the best I can to be the steward of what I presently have, and not pine over stuff I don;t have. I think my time and money are better invested in growing what I have to the best of my ability.

What a gorgeous gloriosum :)

Besides the P. gloriosum, my favorite is one I found at an international aroid show in Florida. It's a P. fibrosum. Just look at those hairs!!
It wants to be a P. verrucosum, but the leaf is not as majestic.

I love the ones with hairy stems! How did you find the IAS show? I didn;t get to go, I had a friend that went and he was less than impressed (but he has gone most years for like 20 years LOL its hard to impress us old folks I guess).

Said it was horrendously crowded and most of the plants were rather common and too expensive. Not really many collectors items this time around. At one point he was talking to one of our friends who was a vendor and looked down and there was a Calathea on the table by them. They both looked at each other and said 'Is that a CALATHEA?'

Welcome to the forum and PLEASE we need aroid enthusiasts on the forum please don;t be a stranger! Welcome!

@Gina1960 "Is that a CALATHEA?" Rolling on the floor laughing hahah, hey they have a beauty of their own Smiling

Oh it was very crowded! I live nearby, luckily, so I was perhaps the 4th person in on the first day!
It was a crazy haul between a friend and I; we found a king and queen Anthurium, the P. fibrosum, an Anthurium forgetii and an Anthurium metallicum.

However, there were many a plants that were common and overpriced. My eyes jumped after seeing the prices on some Alocasia baby stingrays (though I love them) and some Amazonica look alikes.

It was well worth being there early to say the least!

I have those except for the P. fibrosum and the A. metallicum. I know metallicum is becoming popular but I do not think I can provide conditions to its liking (even if I could afford it)...isn;t it a higher elevation plant or am I thinking of something else? A friend of mine in Cocoa has a few but I don't actually know anyone else personally who has one. I know Enid O had some fibrosum for sale a bit ago but I already have P. mamei, P. plowmanii, and P. squamiferum so I am set with that type.

I have several Veitchiis, I propagated a large plant I had and split it up, it made like 7 plants. I have been growing it for years.

So you are in Miami close to Fairchild, lucky dog!! I haven't gotten down there for a while, closest I have been is Sarasota in the past several years.

You better start sharing here on aroids or I will be totally mad!

This is my P. plowmanii just a close up on one leaf in the stand it used to be pretty huge but got neglected for a few years and is just now coming back to its former glory LOL

There are several who have that! They are pretty cool. Some are hybrids out as well. Verrucosum crosses are becoming the new thing!

@philodendres I would be very interested in following the progress of your Anthurium metallicum, I know this is a Philodendron thread here but we could start an Anthurium one.

@CrazedHoosier, that is a very healthy plant indeed! Thumbs up I think you will love growing it and I hope you will share photos as your plant continues to mature! I'm so glad that you posted your photo of Philodendron bipennifolium because I hadn't checked on my plant in many months! It's been out in the screened atrium, hiding behind a bunch of other plants. When I lifted the wicker like plant stand to bring it over to the walkway, water began pouring out all over the place! I had no idea there was a non draining container still beneath this plant and with all the rain we've had lately, the thing was totally saturated!!! I found a bunch of soggy, dead leaves but luckily the plant hasn't rotted away! I kept it indoors for about a year but when we moved back to our home here in Sebastian last December all of my plants were unloaded from the truck and put here, there and everywhere around the yard and in the screened atrium as well as the pool enclosure.

My plant came from a cutting in a trade with someone on Daves Garden twelve or so years ago. It was labeled Philodendron panduriforme but someone on the DG Aroid forum said that my plant was not panduriforme, that it was P. bipennifolium, so that's what I've had it labeled as ever since. I've read the Exotic Rainforest page about both of them but I still get confused about the differences. I never allowed mine to climb and I'm sure if I'd given it better care over the years and given it something to climb, some of the leaves would have grown larger and changed shape but I'm not a very attentive plant caretaker anymore. *Blush*

I'm sure the plant world really misses Steve Lucas from Exotic Rainforest, he was a great guy and always so helpful with plants in the Aroid family. Here are his pages for both P. bipennifolium and P. panduriforme.
