So I got this plant today that the seller said was imported, but he's not sure what kind of philodendron it is…. It's labelled as something that I'm going to list in the picture, but it looks nothing like what it's labelled as. It's super small and he said he's had it for months. It has a pretty large root system so based on that and the amount of time he's had it, I think that it must be a mini or something. Any help is much appreciated thanks!

Well, I don;t think this is a verrucosum of any type. Even juvenile leaves of verrucosum (no matter standard form, mini, cobra, etc etc etc) have the hallmark pattern. They are also vining climbers, and this plant does not look like a climber. This is what a verrucosum should look like at any stage of growth. Also, the leaf form of your plant is totally off for verrucosum. Its too thin and lanceate. It should be more cordate.

I am not trying to cast aspersions on your seller. I am just being honest here. Many many people have jumped on the 'importing' bandwagon. They are doing it to make a quick buck. I know a few importers here where I live. They get boxes of plants from Indonesia and Borneo all the time filled with unlabeled/mislabeled plants. I think your plant was mislabeled.

I do not know what it is, but I really do not think its a verrucosum of any kind. You might wait and see if it changes morphologically, in its leaf patterning, but I really do not believe it will.

I agree, it's definitely not Velvet-leaf Philodendron (Philodendron verrucosum) which has very cordate (heart shaped) leaves with pubescent/hairy petioles. The leaves of P. verrucosum also have distinctive veining, even on juvenile plants.

More information and photos of P. verrucosum on this page: https://www.exoticrainforest.c...

There's another Philo with the same common name of "Velvet Leaf" but it's also a climbing vine with a trailing, climbing growth habit:
Velvet Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum)
Velvet Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum var. hederaceum)

I hope you will continue to share photos as your plant matures.

It may become apparent as it progresses what it is.

Hi! I wanted to post an update even though I still don't know what kind of plant he is. Luckily he's still growing happily and healthy and I repotted him into soil so he's growing really fast now!

I'm kind of thinking it looks more like an Anthurium.

It will be interesting to see it when it is more mature. Some of the species, especially the trilobe ones like furcatum and falcatum, can start out with lanceate leaves like that then later the more mature growth will split and make the 3 lobes
