Mine is from a local nursery and doesn't have fragrance too.

Is your's grafted? I wonder if somewhere there was the wrong one propagated or if it sported and lost it's scent? I have trouble with some "tea" or apple scents, but I always, always get any other fruity. I wonder if I got it own root, would I get the correct one and be able to smell it?

I bought Tropicana ~1991, and it was never particularly fragrant or great for me. When we moved to this house in 1997, Tropicana was the only one of my 7 roses that I didn't bring with me to the new house.

I have one from 2002, and one from 2018, and I think the older one is more fragrant, but it doesn't compare to "fruity" fragrant ones like Fragrant Cloud. My Sunset book calls it "sweetly scented." When I asked a Weeks representative about the older one being more fragrant, he said that they are recommending Sedona as a replacement. Sedona I've found is more fragrant, but also a slightly different color (yellow in the center.)

Mine is grafted. I wonder if the own-root version has a scent as Northland says it's very fragrant.
My Wedding Bells has no fragrance too, and it gets BS badly. Thinking to remove it.

Thanks Susan...I did read those pages and could not really come to a conclusion.( It seemed pretty clear that Granada was scented own root.) I also read that soil can make a difference in the strength of the scent. In the Willamette Valley soil roses seemed to always be fragrant, even if it was just faint rose plant scent.

Thanks Aerith....It helped me decided to wait on Tropicana, as I ordered some EU bred roses from Rouge Valley...that will also let me try rooting a Judy Garland...she is fragrant and lovely...if it doesn't work...I'll get both from Northland.

Mine was very fragrant.
'Old' version of it, came with the house. Grafted on Dr. Huey, as evidenced by the sprouting. Didn't particularly like the combination plus it was so huge no matter how much I pruned it that I finally took it out to use the space for something else.

Tried to get all of the Dr. too but I failed.

Come to think of it, my first was Tropicana rose tree in the in the early 90's that lasted around 10 years. That one I remember as fragrant which is why I wondered why later ones didn't match it. I think it got more sun, if that makes any difference.

My Tropicana is in full sun..no scent. I wonder if the new Tropicana isn't actually fragrant. I read something about being over propagated causes problems. Only Northland and people with old (20+ years) mention it as fragrant.

I read that apparently Peace had a good scent, then it was over propagated and lost the scent. I am sure Grandmother had scented Peace. I have yet to smell a Peace that has scent since.

Mine was not fragrant to me. But neither did lots of other roses. It is not their fault. It is my nose. Some roses that is strongly fragrant is not fragrant at all. Its like hot pepper I guess. The same food is hot to one person and not hot at all to another person. It is all relative to the individual. I tried all kinds of different tricks. Smell it in the morning, etc. etc. None helps--

Yes, I might say it was my nose, especially because, I can't smell David Austin's myrrh scent at all, but I can always smell fruity rose scents, except faint apple rose (I can smell strong apple rose.)

The Anlwick rose is a weird one...it takes moist heat for it to be fragrant, is what I read...sure enough 80+ with humidity and I can smell it. On HMF there is a note about scent varies on the Anlwick rose, but there is no note like that on Tropicana....it says strong and all the comments about scent are pleasant and strong.
