My sister had a toad get into her house, she captured it, doused it in hydrogen peroxide, and flushed it down the toilet. My sister is worried that she'll get sick after spraying hydrogen peroxide on the toad.

Is there anything her or I need to worry about???

Thank you,
~ Ian

Why didn't she just release it outside?

I'm sick at heart for this poor, harmless creature your sister killed. No, the peroxide won't hurt her, although if she got some on her clothes, it might bleach out little spots on them. Next time, have her call you and let you capture and release the toad into the garden where it can live out its life eating bugs.
Please tell her to not kill any more toads or frogs. They're the good guys, and will not harm her.

I agree. Toads are wonderful to have outside in your gardens. Killing one like that is so sad. Maybe you can tell her about them, Ian? I'm so happy when I see that toads are at work around my plants.

Agreed, release it outside!
But if you spray hydrogen peroxide in a cut, it won't make you sick. If you touch or see a toad, it won't make sick.
So why oh why would she get sick???

What a nonsensical thing to do!
Besides being cruel, if the toad wasn't truly dead when she flushed it then it may find its way back up through her plumbing trying to escape. She should check her toilet bowl before sitting down for a few weeks or she may get a surprise. (It could try to escape via any toilet or drain in the house.)

I don't know your sister; but I'm sure I'd rather have the toad as my neighbor. Toads cause no harm; evidently the same can't be said for your sister.
Please understand, and help her understand, that we shouldn't be waging war on every creature that might wander into or out of a garden. As every gardener has said, toads are really beneficial.

Thank you guys so much.

It's very common for people to freak out when they see insects and rodents. My sister is one of those individuals; this time over a toad. I don't know why she killed it like that??? I do know that toads carry salmonella. Maybe that's why she killed it???

...I apologize.

I agree It is wonderful! There are years where we see toads everywhere, and years where we only spot one or two. This is a pattern I've noticed with bumblebees.

If I had poured peroxide and flushed every critter that ended up in our house, I would have been the plumber's favorite person: lizards, frogs, toads, snakes, chickens, once a peacock... Its so much easier to scoop them up and put them back out the door.

Hubby did try to flush a dead mouse one time. We did have to call a plumber.

PS: if you think the toad will reappear in your toilet, it won't. Maybe the neighbors....

Let me add to the list of creatures Daisy has scooted out the door after they got into the house…..chipmunks and flying squirrels. If you think catching a frog, toad, or even a chicken is hard, try catching a flying squirrel! And once a possum, that one was scary…… up until that point, I had never realized how many teeth they had…… Whistling

Oh man possums. It is not that they have a lot of teeth, but more like they have the animal worlds best dental plan!!! Talk about teeth whitening!!
Oh my goodness. They are just so white! And when they open their mouths and show their teeth suddenly 30 teeth look like 100 teeth. One of Nature's Great Mysteries!!! Just how do they keep them so white??? Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing 🦡

I still don't understand the original question and I reread it a couple of times:

"My sister is worried that she'll get sick after spraying hydrogen peroxide on the toad"

Why would she get sick if it's the toad that got sprayed?

Sue, the question is as irrational as the act that prompted it. 😵‍💫
