I too love Aeoniums.
Especially the Aeonium Kiwi since it grows so vigorously.

I don't think that is aeonium canariense. I think that that is Aeonium 'pseudotabuliforme'

From the side I discovered branching (apparently side branches of the inflorescence) and they were all infested with aphids. My experience with flowering Aeoniums on the patio is dismal, so I will be dispatching this one shortly. It's so not worth it. In the garden, there are predators. Here, it's like a never ending aphid buffet when most Aeoniums go to flower.

Well if they have any seeds, plant them, I have had very good results with germinating my own aeonium seeds. Absolutely no luck from the seeds that I buy. Now my aeonium haworthii seedlings have started putting out their first pups.

I seriously doubt it will get that far. Still monitoring the situation to see if there will be a branch I can save ... after intensive soap spraying to keep the aphids down to a dull roar.



The haworthii here is self fertile and a volunteer actually showed up in a pot one floor up, on the other side of the house (I grew it to size to confirm it matched the parent). Pretty amazing, but then our climate is kind of ideal for these plants. If there is one Aeonium I can leave alone and provide the bare minimum of care in containers, it's that species.

These 3 are cuttings I started a month ago, now rooted and going strong. Sunburst, Cyclops, Zwartkop (latter 2 started in 3 gallon pots). These are the parents of the next generation; all other rosettes were passed on to others.





Another hybrid of Zwartkop, this one with simsii, looking pretty good in its second year.


Plants in the public garden... 'Lily Pad' (some serious herbivory in action) and one of its parents, nobile (apparently not as delicious)

that aeonium zwartkop hybrid you have is probably aeonium 'firecracker'. Its aeonium simsii x zwartkop. Even though it has a cultivar name, some people just call it aeonium 'simsii x zwartkop'.

It is the hybrid but not the cultivar, which it predates. I wouldn't know the difference, not having seen them side by side. There must not be that many simsiis in cultivation, but I would guess where there's a simsii, there's a Zwartkop.

A few interesting things.

1. and aeonium hybrid (unidentified) may be blooming soon. (idk)

2. An seedgrown Aeonium is officially 2 years old

I also have some Aeonium haworthii plants that were grown from seed. So far, nothing interesting with that bunch.

Well Ive been experiencing crazy growth from lots of plants that I potted in oversized pots. Seems like Aeoniums like having lots of root space. Plants have literally doubled in size.

Yes, this time of year they do like some space. I start cuttings of the bigger varieties in 3 gallon pots.

Have you had problems with leaf miners on your aeoniums? Ive had a particularly bad infestation on my plants. I find that spraying alcohol on the leaves helps. Just wondering so I can find other treatments.

Well now is the season for pups on your aeoniums. And with the pupping season theres also the culling season. Lots off plants having a pupping frenzy!

For aeoniums with pup that have a large difference in size, in this case Arboreum ssp holochrysum, I remove all the smaller and weaker pups.





If the pups are all pretty evenly sized, no treatment is needed, just enjoy them growing!

Very nice branching there. No, I have never seen leaf miners on my plants.
