Since Cubits is shutting down, I decided to utilize the Sandbox forum to transfer all my sewing projects that I posted over there. I didn't want to post them in my blog since I generally post mostly my garden things in there.

This was my first ever quilt top, made July 2016, (still needs a small border attached and then for it to be quilted) I fell in love with the process so much that I kept making more, I am up to 38 completed tops, 8 still need quilting. (as of March 2019)

This quilt represents my love of anything with blooms and with the colors most seen in my garden. Fabrics are from my favorite designers, primarily from Kaffe Fassett, Philip Jacobs, a bit of Anna Maria Horner.

I just finished my 3rd Scrappy Trip Around the World, based on the easy instructions from Bonnie Hunter found here:

It's a great way to use up scraps and 2-1/2 strips.

This was the first one, made for a friend. She picked the fabrics from my stash and took this photo of it in her guest room the day in came in the mail. She didn't know the design I had chosen and I was so pleasantly surprised when I saw the pillows with a similar pattern!


The second one was a custom order, the mother chose the colors for her grown daughter, she loved peaches and soft colors.




And I finished this top a couple of weeks ago, still needs quilting and binding. This one will eventually be listed in my Etsy shop when completed.

This was a quilt made for my daughter, Leslie Renee, pictured. She chose the pattern and fabrics and even found the vintage fabric for the backing. This is an easy Herringbone Quilt-As-You-Go tutorial by Maureen Cracknell.

I collected these fabrics over time until I settled on a simple pattern to showcase their beauty. Recently finished but not yet listed, it will be hard to give up as I love the colors so much. Like a garden waterfall. (it has since sold, need to make another!)


having upload issues, color changes each try

This was a custom order for a 80+ year old friend, she loved bright hot colors! It's called Seed Packet by Kaffe Fassett from one of his books. I modified it slightly by adding the green band, helped to divide the smaller border blocks from the larger ones. I have enough of these large florals to make several more in a range of colors. I can't resist adding these prints to my stash.

And this photo, taken by the new owner, was made for the great grandson of that lady above. He was a preteen and nuts about birds, could name a lot. I collected realistic bird prints for abut 9 months before I had enough variety to put this one together. A simple pattern of course, and he loved it.

These were the colors and prints I collected for a quilt for my granddaughter, she was 13 when I made it for her 2 years ago. It's a small block pattern with 2 side sashes, simple design but a great way to add a lot of fun focal prints and scraps. I never got a full shot of it. The aqua floral backing was a vintage sheet, I have a huge stash of them and use them often for backings.

Every one of those are simply gorgeous! How long does it take you to make one?

It all depends on size and pattern style of course, I tend to like fast and easy!

I've made 2 Flying Geese quilts, both as wedding gifts. The brides picked their colors and design ahead of time. They are fun to make.

It would take me a year to do something like that, and after that amount of time, I wouldn't want to part with it!

I don't have a large bare space to have a design wall so hubby added a couple of wood brackets to insert a copper pipe he had to the top of a bookshelf set in the living room. Added batting with 4 large binder clips and I'm a happy camper! Company comes and it's an easy roll up. My umbrella light system helps with photographing in the dark living room.

I found the idea for the garden themed quilt on Pinterest. It now has darker green triangles around the border to complete it, just needs quilting and binding. And again, it may be hard to give up, I collected the florals and green foliage variety for a couple of years and it's such a cheerful garden quilt to me! (this has since sold to someone on this site )

I am pretty fast with them, have finished many within a week. I do everything by machine including the binding.

I invested in a good machine, a Juki TL-2000Qi, that just does one stitch, straight, and it has a nice wide open 8 5/8" throat so I have room to roll up my quilts to quilt them.
I just do simple straight edge to edge quilting with my walking foot. Free motion quilting intimidates me, I did take a short how-to class last year but it still makes me nervous. I can't afford to have them sent out to be quilted so straight lines it is.

These are a few blocks I made 2 years ago when I joined a free Sew-Along on Instagram. It was a sampler quilt design called Sewcial Bee and about 1/2 way through, I decided I didn't care for the look of sampler quilts so I never completed it. I still have all the fabrics though and may just have to make a few more and finish it as a baby quilt. It was a great way to practice my cutting and piecing skills and the 2 ladies that put the sew-along together would release one block pattern a week with extra helpful tips so I really learned a lot. I have learned so much from the online quilting community!

These are two baby quilts I made last month. I think I need to make more, love the smaller sizes and quick finish.




This is the pastel one. I used a lot of my favorite vintage and vintage reproduction prints I've been collecting for a while, making this a sweet little "I Spy" quilt. I also added a piece of vintage lace trim to one block per row. The backing was a hoarded botanical vintage sheet and a vintage rosebud sage green stripe for the binding for a nice finish. (both now sold)

I collect botanical prints, especially vintage ones, even heavier weight cotton and linens meant for curtains and such. I have a go-to simple pattern for them to showcase the large florals with thirty two 8" single floral focal blocks and thirty two Sixteen Patch blocks with companion prints. My inspiration comes from a favorite book, The Gentle Art of Quiltmaking
I have 3 more cut out waiting to be put together and a whole antique armoire stuffed to the gills with vintage florals waiting to be made into quilts, tote bags and pillows.

Another garden themed quilt almost completed with a mixture of modern and vintage prints I have been collecting for a while. Even added in some birds. Diagonal 5" blocks with 2-3 repeats. It's 14 blocks across and 13 down, I just need to add the green foliage border and I'll take new photos when done. Inspiration from The Gentle Art of Quiltmaking book I linked above.

This is a modified log cabin quilt in the works, again with modern and vintage prints. Again, from The Gentle Art of Quiltmaking book. It's set aside for now as I promised myself I would finish the other completed tops first.

So 7 years ago when a new grand baby was due, I started sewing again after a few years hiatus. I used to make a lot of my clothes from Junior High on up and then my daughters toddler clothes and several home projects.
So for grand #3 I made bibs, burp clothes, and receiving blankets and enjoyed it so much I bought a new sewing machine. (My Elna from Junior High days was frozen from lack of use, couldn't be repaired, too bad, it was a quality Swiss made machine)
I started making a few shopping totes and then made a few with vintage lace, trims and linens and also added the same to aprons. Quilted bibs came next, zippered pouches, eyeglass cases, journals, needlebooks and checkbook covers.
I got so much of my inspiration from following sewing blogs and Instagram feeds that I finally succumbed to the quilt making realm.
