I haven't ordered any roses for the last two years because my arthritis has made gardening almost impossible. I did receive several as gifts from friends, though, and my gardener did such a good job planting them that I decided to start ordering again. I've lost many roses and other plants in the last four or five years as a result of the drought, the gophers, and some careless helpers, so I now have lots of space for some new ones.

I'll be receiving four next week from Menagerie Farm and Flower:

Queen of Elegance
Nicole Carol Miller
Gold and Great
Pop Art

Around the beginning of March I'll receive nine from Palatine:

Kaleidoscope Girl
Broceliande
Ashley
Roberto Alagna
Mme Jean
Julia
Goldflame
Blue for You
Eifelzauber

I like threads that have a thumbnail photo, so I'll add a picture of Nicole Carol Miller to this one.

Those are lovely, Zuzu, and I hope you're excited to have some new ones coming your way.

I've placed an order with High Country for the following:

Alchymist (which I photographed at the Chelsea Flower Show many years ago)

Life of the Party

Love Song

Vavoom (which I used to grow many years ago)

Cream Veranda (aka Garden of Roses)

I've ordered way too many roses over the past three years, so this year I decided only one: Nicole Carol Miller. Somehow, she flew under my radar, even though she was available at my local nursery for the past two years. Her three parents are Charles de Gaulle, Shocking Blue, and Sterling Silver, three of my favorite roses. Then, when she wasn't available at the nursery (or from Regan) this year, I was fortunate to hear she was available from Witherspoon. As I mentioned on the other thread, she came today, and is one of the best bare roots ever!

Zuzu, so sorry that arthritis has put a stop to your gardening capabilities. I'm glad you have changed your mind and decided to order more roses. You are fortunate to have a gardener planting/caring for them. At least, if you are still able to ambulate with your arthritis, on days you may feel a bit better, you can go out in your rose garden on sunny day to enjoy the fragrances and take in their beauty up close.

Thank you for entering rose pictures every day in celebration of Whatever Special Day the calendar says. Those pictures open my eyes to some beautiful roses, then I go research the facts about them to see if they would thrive in sometimes -45 below. temps in my garden.

Went to a local nursery and bought two more roses:

Distant Drums
Honey Dijon

I already have both, but they are own-root roses and are disappointing. I was so happy to find them grafted today. In general, I'm happy that all of the roses I've bought for this season are grafted. I bought 42 own-root roses in 2018-2019 and almost all of them are gone. Never again!

I love my Distant Drums. I hope it survives this winter. Normally I bury the pot but this year I left it out in it's normal spot. I need to get to the other house this weekend and mark where I want the roses to go and start prepping. I need a mini backhoe. Sighing!

I filled up most of my existing garden space last year so I was going to hold off picking out too many new plants. But I have since changed my mind and will be adding more garden space in 2023. Therefore, I went ahead and ordered a few more roses for this year. David Austin's are:

High Country rose order:
Cream Veranda
Souvenir du Docteur Jamaine
Alexander MacKenzie
Mrs. John Laing
Darlow's Enigma
Country Dancer
Princess Charlene de Monaco

I purchased a few climbers for my living privacy fence and to add vertical elements to my horizontal garden. I have to laugh at ordering so many. There will be a spring crunch to get the beds readied for the roses before they are delivered. Hilarious!

Hi Zuzu...I just ordered Souvenir de st. Anne's from Antique Rose Emporium yesterday. Last month I ordered two Firefighters and two Sweet Mademoiselle from Northland Rosarium and one Jubilee Celebration, plus, Felicia and Cornelia from Pam at Angel Gardens. Heirloom has Jacqueline du pre out of stock at the moment and I'm waiting for it to be available. When it is I am getting two to put in front of my porch.
Love covers a multitude of sins......thank God!

Zuzu, it is interesting what you said about dependability of own root roses. Up in Minnesota I have been told to try to purchase own root if possible because of the cold temps. We bury bud unions several inches down so even the grafted roses are fairly safe., but they may sucker easily. This year the coldest it has been is -18F so not too bad. But it does get -25F or colder and then, depending on rootstock, the grafted may die off or sucker from the rootstock. I'm just getting back into growing roses (or flowers in general). Maybe the rose forum would have more on the advantages of certain rootstocks. Our season is short so need plants that get to it - vigorous and continuous, with fragrance if possible.
SusaninSB, how could you order too many roses?
Being zone 4, I am jealous of all the wonderful roses everyone is ordering.

That area must be a bit of a bummer as your season is truly short.
I have two gardens one approx. 60 miles North by NorthWest of MnDigger and the other 60 miles West by SouthWest of digger.

I had buried by roses in both for quite a few years (never lost a rose by burying) but now due to not having tine to go through the process, and not in the mood to do so, they are simply covered with leaves down South.
Burying is partly for survival, especially up North where -40 has hit, and -30 is not unusual, but really due to not spiking them when forking the leaves off in the spring, though finding them can be a challenge at times. - - (I also covered them with a car cover for years but it is pretty much shot after twenty years, and being spiked with a fork.)

I wish I had taken the 150 bucks I spent on Cocoa Bean Hulls for mulch last year and bought some more roses instead.
This year I may, not a very big may, buy one or two but this year money is not tight but d--n near non-existent.

I have not looked at any rose sites as to do so would be self-torture but I will give in eventually ; now I got a nice fifth, actually a quart canning jar, of whiskey for Christmas, maybe sit down with that while looking at rose catalogs.... I tip my hat to you.

RpR, if you drink that quart you WILL be buying roses Hilarious!
Tigerpaws, if I had the space I would pick up a few Canadian single bloom roses. I love their spectacular explosive display. The Alexander MacKenzie I purchased this year is an Explorer zone 3. Thorny buggers though. I like garden.org so I can look at all of the great variety of pictures of roses I cannot grow in 4. Need to travel to smell them though.

MNDigger, unfortunately, I am not a fan of the single bloom roses. My eye is always drawn to the fuller rose, the kind that probably would never survive here but, still, it doesn't stop me from buying them if I like their looks. I visit this forum because I enjoy seeing what other persons' gardens are able to grow.

Single bloom, or June roses as Ma called them, are nice for the short time they hit their prime but I have little love for them also.
My lack of attention to the garden last year shows up in Ma's wild rose bushes.
I am debating whether to rip them out, few blooms but spreading like quack grass, and redo.
She would go out in the country road ditches and dig them up way back when I was few years out of pants pooper age.

Hybrid Teas are what she loved and are what strike my fancy with Grandiflora and Florabunda coming in as also rans. I tip my hat to you.
