OMG, I shouldn't be ordering anything. With my back issues I can't do as much out in the garden as I used to. I don't have a gardener like Zuzu does. I have my husband, and he's not much help. LOL His back is almost as bad as mine. Retirement is supposed to be fun... but it's not.

I have coming this season......

ASHLEY
BLACK CAVIAR (aka ASTRID GRAFIN VON HARDENBERG)
BLUE GIRL (the newer version)
GOLDFLAME
HAPPY PIANO
KALEIDOSCOPE GIRL

THE PRIDE

From High Country Roses:
MORGENGRUSS

GREY DAWN (custom budded)
REMBRANT VAN RYN (custom budded)
TANTARRA (custom budded)

Other than that, I've been rooting tons of florist roses. Having fun with that!

My next-door neighbor's property has an extra, empty lot next door to mine. I wish I could buy it so I could expand the gardens on our property! Of course, I'm reminded, "Be careful what you wish for," because the gardens we have now are already a full-time job for my gardener... his name is "Me".

That hit so close to home, Mike. I also wanted to buy my neighbor's property and turn it into flower beds. Thankfully, I never did.

Just give me at least 40 acres with lots of woods and an area just big enough to have some roses and veggies and I'm happy as a clam. Still working on that. Rolling my eyes. Hilarious!

Pepper23, 40 acres would be wonderful. Reading this forum may be contributing to my gardening excessive desires! Hilarious! Well I love it!
Beth_NorCal, that is quite a list. Sounds wonderful though!
We will have to check in to see how our 2023 orders come to fruition.
I have been looking over several gardening books. Designs are all garden except very small strips of grass. Planning a big garden expansion this year but probably not the whole yard. Calculating about 50 yds of dirt, which is just nuts. Probably far more than I can handle so I need to reassess what I can reasonably handle in one season. Most likely about 20 yds. Good way to lose the 5 lbs I have gained this winter Blinking

I actually have my eye on 80 acres but there's no way I can afford it in my lifetime unless I win a big enough lottery. Hilarious!

I have absolutely no business buying roses this year. I have a stress fracture in my right foot that is not healing properly and a benign tumor in my left foot. How I am going to dig my rose holes is a mystery .... Smiling

It's still winter up here, so I have more time to heal.

The roses that are coming next month are:

Firefighter
Peter Mayle
Olympiad
Chicago Peace
Rock 'n' Roll
White Licorice

After talking with Andrew, I saw other roses on his site I'd like to add to the garden, but since I am gardening in rock, six roses are enough for this year.

Smiles,
Lyn

I didn't order as many this year as I did last year.

David Austin
Jubilee Celebration (replacement for one that died last year)
Golden Celebration (2nd, 1st from Heirloom 2 years ago)
Grace
Elizabeth
Eustacia Vye
Lady of Shalott x3 (will be #4,5 and 6)

Northland Rosarium
Flaming June (aka The Impressionist)
Distant Drums

High Country Roses
Kazanlik
Ispahan
State of Grace (2nd, 1st was bareroot from J&P 2 years ago)
Mango Veranda
Cream Veranda
Abraham Darby (2nd, first from DA 2 years ago)
Princess Charlene de Monaco (2nd, first from Chamblee 2 years ago)

Regan
Papa Meilland (bought one from Edmunds last year that died)

I have a lot of dieback from the Christmas freeze but I think I might have only lost 2 roses. Several will be down to 1-2 inches after pruning but already have new growth starting.

Nice list Michelle. I am fond of Lady of Shallot and Eustacia Vye. I have been very pleased with the David Austin rose performance. Initially I had heard that they were fussy, esp in the northland. I have discovered that they are vigorous growers with not many issues. I would love a Golden Celebration but may be too cold up here. Enjoy your order. Your rose garden must be fine.

@MNdigger ....

Many of the early Austin roses are weak roses because Austin was only breeding for bloom form and scent. As time went on, through back breeding and the introduction of healthier roses to the breeding line, his later roses became more solid plants.

In his early roses, he did disclose the linage which included some modern roses which introduced the repeat blooming gene to his breeding line. After a while, he didn't want to admit that modern roses were a part of his breeding program and patented all of his new roses as 'seedling x seedling'.

It really doesn't make any difference, but it is good to know that the early Austins may not thrive as well in your garden.

The Austin roses were break through roses and are worthy garden roses if you have the right conditions for them to thrive.

Smiles,
Lyn

I was given a David Austin 'Tranquility' (white) my kind brother and sister-in-law when we moved to France and that has done very well in our garden. For this year I have purchased 2 x David Austins; Gertrude Jekyll (pink) and Roald Dahl (peach), both as bare roots and they have taken very well in their new pots and putting on some good growth/leaves. Looking forward to some lovely blooms, fingers crossed.

@RoseBlush1
Thanks for taking the time to explain DA rose history and the debate I have heard about weak roses. I have just gotten back into roses so I know I am an amateur grower. I keep ordering the DA roses that can tolerate zone 4 because they are so beautiful and usually fragrant, and have grown quite nicely for me. Funny that he didn't want to admit he had used modern roses in his breeding. What is up with that?! Hilarious!

About 30 years ago I had an east garden surrounding my deck planted with several Fragrant Cloud roses. The fragrance was strong but quite nice when relaxing on the deck. They were zone 5 so I had to bury them in a trench every fall. I am surprised that I don't see too many people interested in that variety.

Fragrant Cloud is one of my favorites, and I have two of them in my garden.

Many others here on the forum also grow it, and their photos of it are at this link (scroll to the bottom of the page): Rose (Rosa 'Fragrant Cloud')

Thanks for the link Mike. I can see from the number of pictures Fragrant Cloud is still grown by many. Such a wonderful scent. Perhaps I will try to locate a root to try again. It is worth the time tipping the plant in the fall.

My Brother, at least 13 years ago planted 4 David Austen roses next to the garage.

I did my best to take care of them but with-in four years they all went belly-up; I have no idea where he got them or why.
First two years they did well to fairly well but then their demise was quick (I did cover them and as then there was a car in the garage {i.e. that kept the garage and its foundation warmer all winter} .

This was back when I put a lot of time, and I do mean a lot of tim,e in the South gardens and all involved, so if yours go belly-up, not unusual.
