Is it possible to switch a photo of a plant on the main page of my personal plant list? I keep an inventory of all my plants on this list and when I obtain a new plant, I will post a pic as it appears when I first obtain it and add it to my list. As the plant grows and changes I have newer pics on the "2nd page" and I have found that to switch the original pic I need to delete all the other pics except for the one I wish to replace it with. (By way of the edit button) Is there a way to replace that photo without having to delete my other photos? Hope that makes sense. Thank You!

I'd like to be able to do that too! Haven't figured out how.

If I understand your question, I think the one that gets selected is the one that has the most thumbs up in the database.

That is the case if you don't upload your own photo, but once you post your's that is what is displayed. Smiling

Yes, your own photos show in your personal list no matter how many thumbs-up another members photo has.
The only way I can think of doing this is to delete the others and upload the one you want as the main one, then add the others. Shrug!

This is what I have been able to determine for the thumbnail selection in personal plant lists.

For plants linked to the plants database:

1) If the user has added photos to the database entry, their photo with the highest number of thumbs-up takes precedence. If the user has multiple photos with the same number of thumbs-up, then the one uploaded first out of that group is shown.

For example, a user has uploaded five photos (let's call these photos A, B, C, D and E) to a plant in the database. Two of the photos have 5 thumbs (B and D) and the rest have 2 thumbs. Photo B was uploaded before Photo D, so Photo B is shown. Photo A, despite being uploaded before photo B, only has 2 thumbs, so is not shown.

2) If the user has not added photos to the database entry, then the most popular photo by any user is shown (with the same logic as above if multiple photos have the same number of thumbs-up).

3) If the user adds a photo to the personal plant page (only accessible from the user's plant list), then these photos take priority over any from the plant database (whether the user has added one there or not). The trade-off is that these photos are not shown on the plant database entry for a plant.

I think this is the easiest workaround for Debbie's situation - instead of adding/removing photos from the plant database entry, she can just add/remove the photo she wants as the thumbnail from the plant list specific entry.

You can do this as follows:

Thumb of 2023-02-26/Australis/16decf

Then add/remove photos from the personal plant page:

Thumb of 2023-02-26/Australis/e0208a

I tested this out with a plant I have (Lilium 'Penghana') and you can see in the screenshots that the photo of the bulb I added to the personal plant page. It overrode all the photos from the plant database entry, including my own:

Thumb of 2023-02-26/Australis/74ed33

I meant what Australis said (I should have explained more). Example: I have three different photos for the same plant that I submitted to the database (like, a picture of the plant, a picture of it in bloom, a picture of it emerging in Spring).

Whichever one of those got the most "thumbs up" from other members is what gets displayed when I go to my list and see that plant. So, sometimes the picture changes when the amount of thumbs ups from other members changes.

I hope that makes more sense. Smiling

After reading this thread, I've been thinking about the situation and I plan to do an update to the photos part of the plant list very soon. I'd like people to be able to drag and drop their uploaded photos to rearrange them, and the first one in the list is what is used as the thumbnail.

I'm contemplating the work and hope to do it this coming week.
