Hello - I want to add plicatas to my garden, but I am looking for specific traits. I was hoping people could chime in on their favorites. Any height classification, although SDB are my least liked. Firstly, I am really interested in bud count and scape strength. I love the look of most plicata colors and patterns I've seen photos of, but I really love the look of an iris with both white or near white standards and falls with plicata edges. I don't care if the pigment in the edges is pale or dark, but there is just something dramatic-looking to me when the standards are patterned too. Historics or new intros, I don't care - I'm really wanting a punch of contrast in the iris beds. Thanks! I hope I will see a bunch of photos Thank You!
Give me land, lots of land, under starry skies above. Don't fence me in.

Jesse's Song won high awards, is very vigorous, and as you can see from the pictures, forms a marvelous, floriferous clump

Marry the Night has gorgeous contrast and was a winner in an international competition in Europe a couple years back. https://www.google.com/search?...

Ink Patterns is exceptionally floriferous, and I love the way the edge pattern looks like blanket stitching.

Zoom in on the edge detail in this photo:

Chickasaw Sue is a lovely historic plicata in coppery shades. https://www.google.com/search?... .
I love Nancy's (Bloomer's) picture of Chickasaw Sue in our database:

Starwoman is a beautiful Intermediate plicata. https://www.google.com/search?...

Thank you so much, Daisy! I'm especially enamored with Ink Patterns. I love it when members add clump photos because I like to see how far above the foliage the blooms are. Thank You!

Tagline: (database says "emma cook" pattern--is this a subset of a plicata pattern?

Partisan: (is this a plicata?) one of my favorites

My understanding is that the 'Emma Cook' pattern is independent of plicata genetics.

'Tagline' and 'Easy as Pie' are not plicatas, but 'Partisan' almost certainly is (it's not listed as one, but one of its parents is a plicata and the other is at least a plicata-carrier, if not a plicata itself).

Hi Laurie, 'Easy as Pie' is classified as a blend, as it doesn't have the plicata pattern (stitching, stippling or dots).

I was going to mention how Easy As Pie is so reminiscent of one of my absolute favorites - Early To Rise. When I went to add it to my want list I saw that Early To Rise is one of the parent plants! I'll be adding a lot of that one to my garden. Lovey dubby

I love striped plicatas. Line Drive is only 20 inches tall. I prefer it to Finish Line because the standards on Finish Line flop open.

I also love the dots on Celestial explosion

I love the NOID! When I get home from work I'll message you my address. If you do divide it you can let me know how much per rhizome and shipping. I'm nearby in Virginia too. Thank you so much for the offer!

Here are the plicatas that grow well for me and have nice sturdy stalks that withstand our winds and storms. There are more, I just don't have time to list them all. Hilarious!

So it is the stitching, dots, dashes or stippling, etc that makes a plicata, while a smooth transition to another color would be a blend or emma cook.

Yes, although the Emma Cook pattern can have a very rapid transition. There are some patterns not mentioned in that blog post, as well as new ones yet to be named. If you have the time, there's an AIS webinar about them here:
