I need some help here and hope someone may be able to shed some light on the matter.

It seems there is an imposter 'Dorothy Lambert daylily in pretty wide circulation, the numerous internet images from many nurseries and as well as our database showing the same looking bloom from several different gardens.

However, it does not match the description "pink with bluish mauve eyezone and pale yellow throat". The image on the AHS does match http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli... and that bloom is also on the internet, just not as prevalent as the incorrect image.

So does anyone know the story behind this mix-up? Looks like all the incorrect ones will have to be contacted and removed .

Oakes has a DL, which does not look like the registered cv.

Images in the database and the image Oakes is posting do look similar except Oakes image is a bit darker in color. Growing in different soils could account for that though.

I just wrote Oakes and asked if they could help with finding the answer! If I get a response I will post it here.

Yes, but they don't look like the photo in the AHS database, imo.

Yes, according to the registered description and the AHS photo, Oakes also has the incorrect one.

The coloring and the pale eyezone seems to match, the shape is different but that could be weather/environment related.

I mentioned this on the other garden forum a long time ago. So many people have the wrong one that they just don't seem to want to accept it. I finally think I figured out that the imposter Dorothy Lambert that everyone has is actually 'Something'.
I ordered it and when it bloomed it is identical to my imposter Dororthy Lambert. You can find the correct images in a few different places. I tried getting permission to use the AHS photo but they replied that they can not give permission. http://ezdaylilies.com/Lambert...

Plus the AHS description does not match the imposter. I think Oakes or some other nursery sold it mislabeled and it spiraled from there.
If you check Tinkers database http://www.daylilydb.com/ you can see a picture of something as well. The AHS description seems much more likely except mine has never reached the height listed, but I think that can be true with lots of Daylilies.

Bloom on 'Something' I can remember by the black bar. That is in my veggie garden with drip irrigation.


Bloom on supposed Dorothy Lambert same day. In my fence garden with the blueish salvia behind it.

The mix up with 'Dorothy Lambert' appears to go a long ways back. There is a question about it in the AHS Robin archives from 2005. If an imposter, possibly 'Something' from looking at the images above, has been sold all this time and prior to 2005 it would make sense that there are a lot of incorrectly labeled 'Dorothy Lambert' plants out there.

Funny how 'Something' seems to twist one petal in many of the images, even the ones here in the database.
The image on the Tranquil Lakes website appears to match the description for 'Dorothy Lambert' along with the daysong link mainstreet found.

That 'Somethin' is really something, I love it! I don't have many daylilies on my wish list but this just went on it.

I do not see green in the throat on Something, so am wondering if the description is wrong or if I'm just not seeing it. I think these are both beautiful and both could live in my garden! Looks like Something throws out a poly every once in a while.

I don't see it either, but I don't think it is too unusual to see the written description say "Green throat" when the throat to me it looks yellow.

I agree, I have noticed that with others as well.

I got my Something Daylily from E& B, it was a small DF and it was late for my area. I actually almost lost it and when a tiny shoot showed up in it's place I potted it up and kept it on my dripline since last year. So that is why I wasn't able to notice they were similar sooner. I kind of ordered it with the idea that they may be the same.

I got my d.l. from Oaks 4 or 5 years ago. It's the tropical coral pink. I have only seen pictures that look the same as mine until a few weeks ago when this discussion came up on Facebook daylily groups. How could so many people have the wrong one and not realize it? I was mistakenly sent the wrong plant this spring and the second it bloomed knew it was wrong.
