Last year i purchased several fans of Stargate Portal so this was its 1st full year of growth in my garden. Its performance was lackluster and being such a small clump it did not reach anywhere near the listed scape height. The blooms were faded also. Starting this fall all my beds will undergo a fertilizer regimen and i feel it is lack of good soil prep and fertilizer that has caused this cultivar to perform so bad.
Only another year will tell and i am keeping this one until i have better success.

Stargate Portal does well for me except that increase is slow in my zone. I have had rebloom from it a few times and it is extremely fertile both ways. The color is always very vibrant and it never fades here. Stats are pretty true to the registration stats. I will check bud count later and add that stat.

My stats are not what this plant is registered at. Scape ht is 34" in my garden with 2 to 3 way branching and l0 to 12 buds.

Mayo i think in my case it was lack of fertilizer and size of start. The farm where i got it is only 4 miles away and it was beautiful and much darker with the big clump they had there. Definitely worth waiting for more reviews on this one.

I have grown this one for years, and it is a real beauty. The color will fade at the end of the day, but what daylily doesn't. Mine is really in need of dividing, but it still blooms nicely. zone 4B Iowa.

Just planted my Stargate Portal early Spring. So far, no bloom. To the positive, it has so far survived our terrible heat and humidity here in gulf-coast Texas.

I have grown Stargate Portal for about 5 years. The scape height is 30-35 inches and bud count is more like 15. I have used it for hybridizing and have a few interesting seedlings. It is very pod and pollen fertile and can create about any form of flower depending on what you cross it with. It will have a long time home in our garden and we will also continue to use it for hybridizing. It is slow to increase but so many of our daylilies are slow to increase. I am sure they need more water and fertilizer and less extreme summer heat. Stargate Portal is reliable to bloom with multiple scapes each year.

Debby - I must have accidentally hit the acorn tip twice! You lucked out and got 2 acorns instead of 1. Thanks for posting!

Ashton - I hope we get to see some of the seedlings you are creating from this parent! Thumbs up

I received this daylily spring 2019 so a little early to tell much about it. It did bloom quite well considering when it was planted. Not as many buds as specs say, of course, 2 scapes had 11 buds, the other 2 less. Scapes were short, but flowers were lovely, and just what I expected to see. Looking forward to seeing how it does this year

I bought this daylily from Pick-a-Daylily hee in Lincoln, one of the few backyard daylily seller I've found here. This will be it's third bloom season and third new location. It was not impressive in it's first bloom year, the fans "grassed" out quite a bit and I think I had one scape of a few blooms. Last year, it did better, still seemed way too short though.

We'll see what happens this year as it was moved to a new location with very fertile and boggy-ish soil last summer. I have it recorded that it has 8 fans up this year.

I realize this thread was a few years ago, but when it comes to Stargate Portal, I will still toss my ten cents in. I love this daylily!

I have been growing Stargate Portal for several years in zone 3, it's easily cold-hardy for northern gardens. That said, it does seem to take at least its first year to really settle in. But it has grown well here and had reasonable increase, the fans have more than doubled in the past several years... which, actually, makes it a better increaser here than most of my other daylilies. So perhaps it likes a cooler climate.

I do get a rich green foliage, no pests and (zone 3) no issues with rust. But few gardeners plant for foliage, whereas most are looking for the blooms... The scapes do have good height and bloom from mid to late season reliably. And Stargate Portal is gorgeous!

The cream throat bleeds out into the sepals and forms a distinct triangle across the petals that contrasts with and accents the blue-toned watermark like a framed Master's oil painting. The watermark is consistent, that blue-lavender verges almost on royal purple ... and indeed, looks regal across the gardens.

This is not a shy wallflower at the ball, but dances spectacularly above the surrounding border and swirls and curtseys to every breeze. In short: it's stunning. The fact that it also happens to add fragrance is superfluous ... it doesn't need to tease the nose, or enchant the viewer with tricks or come-ons, it flashes that lovely face and bedazzles you from any angle.

Absolutely one of my top five!

Maybe you should publish a book of daylily descriptions. I think I will start collecting all your reviews and whenever I find a daylily I grow that you have reviewed I will put that description down in my plant list.

Dianne - You do have a charmingly poetic way of writing daylily reviews! And I agree by the photos that Stargate Portal bloom is a beauty! Lovey dubby

I planted Stargate Portal in Spring of 2021, in a good location. The plant has struggled, by this October, down to one rusty fan. Still it bloomed July 16- August 8, with 8 flowers that I saw. It was probably more as I was gone for 5 days. The flowers I saw are beautiful!

2023 update…Stargate Portal had a good year, blooming from July 8- August 2, with at least 18 blooms. It also managed to more than double itself, ending the season with three fans. The flower is really beautiful. And I have some geeky friends who absolutely loved the name!
