I have Salvia miniata growing in two locations in my backyard. I see hummers use the blooms every Winter when the birds are visiting. It blooms year round for me. I keep mine pruned to about 4 1/2 ft. tall so they never get huge. They prefer partial shade here in central Florida during the heat of summer. Mine does not grow fast, but cuttings can be rooted easily. I like this plant as it doesn't seem to be bothered by much except drought conditions. It does require watering regularly during the growing season. Blooms are sporadic which do not make a big statement, but the hummers find every single bloom. It is a hummer magnet in my yard in Fall/Winter/Spring. I fertilize it in the Spring.
