This stupid cat just ate all the leaves of the seedlings, taking them out of the pots. The crown and roots are still there, so I repotted them.. I wonder if they will survive.. they were so small!! Sighing!

If th cat doesn't die in a short I'll know that DLs are not dangerous for cats...

If the crown and roots are still intact, I would think most will survive.
The cats do the same here...

I've read some articles that say daylilies are poisonous.
Our cats eat daylilies all the time, they are all very healthy.

I've had that happen too. My seedlings lived. Now I either try to keep catgrass growing for my cats, or I pot up a few extra unwanted bee pollen seeds just for my cats to munch on. (I've thought about selling them as *cat greens* Smiling ) They seem to enjoy the daylily seedlings, and I know the foliage doesn't hurt them, or they would have already been sick or dead.

Sabrina, I'm sure your seedlings will survive. They are though little plants!! Thumbs up

My 3 cats try to nibble on the DL leaves as well, given a chance Sad

Because I thought that DL's were indeed poisonous for them I have been quite strict with them to keep them from doing that
(I've had dogs for 35 years and these are my first cats ever.. the result is that the cats can sit and heel on command and know what 'no!' and 'leave it' mean Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing )

It is a great relieve to hear that your cats (16, wasn't it? Hilarious! ) haven't come to any harm after eating DL's Thumbs up Thumbs up

A scientifically known part of daylilies that can be poisonous are the roots. Even those may be poisonous at some times and under some conditions but not at other times under other conditions.

I also have just planted day lilies and my cat nibbled on the first leafs, I was worried that he might get sick but he threw them up later (just like when he do with every grass), spent the next day tired but then he's okay
I'll replanted them somewhere out of reach anyway, just in case.

I also planted the lily (the true lilies, which are poisonous) once not knowing that they are poisonous, but thankfully they were in pots somewhere out of reach, and they never came back the next year anyway.
When I had them my cats never nimbled on them, their leafs don't resemble grass so no worries there, the o ly danger would be if they slept under them or rubbed against them and got pollen on their coats.

I think maybe the reason for that is that some people confuse between lilies and day lilies (hemerocallis), but some researches said that both are toxic to cats, and according to most cat owners on different gardening forums that know the difference between the two plants said that their cats never got sick from them, but you never know and should be on the safe side, either dow't grow them at all, or grow them in elevated containers out of cat's reach, and plant some grasses (a small section with lawn or some cat grass) so the cats won't be interrested in eating the day lily leafs.
