I think maybe the reason for that is that some people confuse between lilies and day lilies (hemerocallis), but some researches said that both are toxic to cats, and according to most cat owners on different gardening forums that know the difference between the two plants said that their cats never got sick from them, but you never know and should be on the safe side, either dow't grow them at all, or grow them in elevated containers out of cat's reach, and plant some grasses (a small section with lawn or some cat grass) so the cats won't be interrested in eating the day lily leafs.
