What plant & seed varieties are you going to get in 2016?

I'm still thinking and haven't ordered anything yet.

This is Salvia coccinea 'Snow Nymph'.

My top salvias I am going to get are:
Yvvones salvia
Mexican limelight
Raspberry truffle
Indigo spires
Confertifolia
And there are many more, but those are my top I want to grow. My bank account is not gonna be happy with me when I get done with flowers by the sea lol

Sounds like a great list. S. Amistad is another great one too if you're interested. It is a 'staple' for me, since it was introduced.

I don't have any plans to pick up new Agastache or Salvia this year. This may sound terrible but in recent years the number of species grown has been winnowed back with cultivation of the more tricky ones abandoned in favor of what has proved the most successful. I would in the long like to revisit some species that I abandoned too soon in my rush to try everything in sight. Salvia blepharophylla is one that comes to mind. While not hardy here it was wonderfully easy in pot culture and stored in a slightly above freezing enclosed porch quite well. Buchananii is another. Oh my, these might bother me until I make an order.
I agree with the mention of Amistad, it is a mainstay of the garden these days and one I would do without. Last year there were may 40 plants in various gardens and the hummingbirds took full advantage. It is so easy to propagate.

Just planted these today before the rain sets in....any minute now. Everything came through shipping perfectly. Love Annie's Annuals.

Also new for this year planted in the fall are Salvia greggi 'Tangerine Ballet' and 'Desert Blaze', S.micophylla 'Heatwave Glow' and 'Heatwave Radiance', and S. superba 'May Nights'. The weather has been rainy rainy rainy and that means warmer so I have no worry that it will frost any time soon and its just perfect for getting these established and used to the real outdoor world. Can't wait to see them bloom.

What size were the pots when Annie's shipped the plants?

You're going to love those salvias when they bloom.

They ship in 4inch square pots. The rootball is wrapped in paper then all of that is set in a larger piece of paper then back into the pot. I get 12 at a time thats the max per box they ship. The pots all have there own little slot and it's all restrained from moving by cardboard I-beams. It all arrives in great shape in two days. I'm sure they all use similar packing for live plants. You had mentioned S. 'Big Swing' and how you liked it and I love blue flowers most. S. vasquezii, S. gravida in the DB still, looks very interesting with the leaf having a vivid color underneath. I purchase S. confertiflora because the one I had turned out to be tequila which keeps breaking at the base. I think there are three canes left. Still blooming away though. 70+ Salvia here now.

Well I haven't been on the site/forum much the past few months. Once I had to reset my password and then couldn't find the new one but finally did. Also the time has seemed to fly. I am definitely getting excited about expanding my gardens this year. @WardDas I too am guilty of wanting to try everything at once but am determined to restrain myself- the fact that our budget is extremely tight right now will help. Of all of these the only one I already have grown from the lists is the one S Guaranitica with the dark bright blue blooms (seems to be the "true species") and Summer Jewel Red. Of the Agastaches I have one Blue Boa and one Heatwave (had 2 of each but only 1 of each came back this year).

It is because of the people on this forum that I learned about Flowers by the sea, Bluestone Perennials, High Country Gardens, and Robin's Salvias website. I am most grateful and excited to get started on garden prep, sowing seeds indoors, and seeing what perennials survived the winter from last year! Excited to hear about what others are ordering/growing too!

I'm planning on ordering Penny's Smile this year too, besides other plants from FBTS. I haven't grown it before, but after being tempted by it last year, I'm looking forward to seeing the blooms.

I haven't ordered anything yet, but am 'chomping at the bit' to order new plants.

You'll have to let us know how everything does and post pics.

I went a little overboard with salvias. spending into triple digits at flowers by the sea. Thank goodness I have a big garden!!! Lol my top favorites I'm excited to grow from there is salvia big swing, limelight, and royal bumble.
Indigo spires is another one I'm excited about it but didn't get it from flowers by the sea. I'm hopefully going to grow 50 varieties of salvia this year.

Wonderful list! Mine from FBTS is not that long but counting ones I am starting from seeds and ones I am getting from Gardens in the Wood of Grassy Creek my total should end up close to yours. You will love the salvias. At 56 years of age I am a relative newcomer to them (and to gardening in general)as well, this will be my third year and the first 2 years many were annuals here and I hadn't yet learned about propagating from cuttings or seeds. I have 2 of the S. Windwalker Red in ground, planted last year, that should come back. And some Agastaches that should. Other than that I have a fair amount of areas to fill with Salvias, Agastaches, and a few other hummingbird favorites. I am loving every minute of it!

I used to think salvias were boring. I would only see pineapple sage in garden stores. They would bloom too late in the year for me and would not come back the next year. So I assumed they were a waste of time. The salvia that made me really interested was Anthony Parker. I was walking down a path in the South Carolina Botanical that I had not walked before and then BAM there it was. Big and deep indigo. And I was hooked.

The parentage of Salvia 'Anthony Parker' is

(Mexican Bush Sage; Salvia leucantha) Midnight x Salvia elegans (Pineapple Sage).

I've been thinking of getting Anthony Parker this year instead of Indigo Spires. It will be the first time growing Anthony Parker.

'Anthony Parker' is gorgeous but blooms late in the season like its parents. I'd still like to grow it but wouldn't consider it a replacement for the long-blooming 'Indigo Spires'.
