@Danita

I'm so happy you mentioned that about Anthony Parker. I didn't realized it bloomed late. I'll forget about getting AP and instead, will get Indigo Spires.

Thank you so very much! Thank You! I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

Nice list, Marilyn! Hurray!

Why couldn't you order more at FBTS? Were they sold out of the items that you wanted or are you just trying to be "good" ?

Danita,

Hubby has been out of a job, since Comair Airlines closed 9/29/12 (and I don't work because of MS), I figured I'd better keep my plant orders 'money wise' cheap and without talking to him earlier today, I place some orders and tried to find the cheapest prices where I could and try to keep the totals low.

Then afterward, I mentioned to him that I couldn't order a favorite of his, Salvia 'Midnight', because of cost and I didn't think he would let me order a bunch of plants at FBTS. He told me I could've ordered more and said to order more at FBTS. Hurray! Thumbs up

After I added more salvias in my cart, but before placing the second order, I contacted Kermit to ask how he did things; combining shipping costs, since I'd forgotten. While waiting for Kermit to respond, one of the salvias in my cart "disappeared" 'Ember's Wish' Crying

I'm hoping it gets restocked before shipping time.

edited to correct the wrong spelling of 'Ember's Wish' to the correct spelling.

Oh no! I just now realized that I forgot to check the UPS 3 Day Select for shipping when I placed the second order at FBTS. *Blush* Blinking

I did with the first order and the two orders are going to be combined for shipping.

I'll have to wait til Kermit tells me how "we're" going to deal with it. Sighing!

Ah yes, I understand that situation only too well. In the last few years, I've limited most of my purchases to seeds and plants bought at local nurseries. They are usually cheaper and I don't have to pay shipping. Shipping is a budget killer. It's no fault of the mail order nurseries: the actual shipping costs are just so expensive. That's especially true if the nursery sends good-sized plants.

Thankfully, I live in an area of distribution for the Southern Living Plant Collection and they have several wonderful Salvias. I'm hoping to find these varieties locally in a few weeks:
Salvia microphylla 'Little Kiss'
Salvia 'Ember's Wish'
Salvia 'Love & Wishes'
Salvia 'Amistad'

Another local wholesale grower that sells to the independent garden centers around here always grows Salvia elegans 'Golden Delicious' and Salvia 'Mystic Spires'. I definitely know that I want to get 'Golden Delicious' again this year. Best of all, they are usually only about $3.

I know that you are hesitant to try, but you really should consider growing your Zinnias and Salvia coccinea from seed. They are super-easy and start blooming in only 8 weeks from seed. The seed stays viable for years and you can even save seed from your plants which will come fairly true from most Salvia coccinea and many Zinnias. It might be a good way to be frugal without losing out on your favorite plants.

I'm so glad that you were able to splurge and get some more plants from FBTS! Hurray! When you really love plants they can provide you with benefits beyond just their beauty. I'm sure that's true for many people, but especially when you are dealing with chronic health problems. Tending them can help keep you physically active; they can lift your spirits and help your mental and emotional health; they also provide "entertainment" (much cheaper than going to the movies weekly!) You are also making a valuable contribution by growing so many pollinator plants, which has to make you feel good! Thumbs up

I'm sure you have no worries with the shipping. I bet Kermit has the situation well in hand.
Now, if I could order anything that I wanted right now then FBTS would be getting a huge order! What wonderful plants they have! Lovey dubby

Okay, sorry, but your typo of "Salvia 'Elmer's Wish' " has me cracking up! Hilarious!
Salvias are often resistant from being eaten by them, but I've never had one that actively hunted down the "wascally wabbits"!!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Elmer Fudd and the "wascally wabbit". Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

The "wascally wabbits" I've so many of them year round. They're cute, except when they're chewing on my plants. I almost have to plant everything in tall containers and/or only grow rabbit resistant plants. They've already been chewing my crocus and tulip leaves. Sighing!

It was getting late and I didn't realized til you mentioned it that I misspelled it. I've since corrected both posts that I had the wrong spelling. Glad you pointed it out to me.

You're lucky to be in a good plants area where you live to find "premium" salvias and plants. We're not. I have to rely on online orders for that.

Within literally days of my first order from FBTS, Salvia x Electric Purple was announced by them- a hybrid with Guaranitica in the parentage - it sounded and looked so stunning I actually called right away and was able to substitute it in my order (for Purple Majesty only because the order had just been placed). I was sad because I would have preferred to have both but didn't think I would be able to do a second order. Well today I was able to do a second order from FBTS and I had chosen the week of April 24 for shipping which worked out great because a couple of mine are preorder and not available till April. I know they will combine two orders and ship together which is nice. On this order:
1 Salvia Purple Majesty
1 Salvia Vibe Ignition Purple
1 Salvia x Elk Ruby Ruby
1 Salvia Patens Blue Angel
1 Stachys Coccinea (not a Salvia but looks similar and a hummingbird favorite)

I am very happy that I will be able to have Purple Majesty AND Electric Purple. And very excited about the Vibe Ignition Purple (and the others too of course but purple is my favorite color since I was very young). The The only other order I have added is seeds from Rolando, which I listed in my original reply in my thread by editing it. Those should be arriving any day I hope! Smiling

I am planning on taking lots of pics and am already trying to catch up with growers reports on the plants I have grown last year. The database is important and I want to do my part and contribute anything helpful that I have. I sure appreciate all who contribute to it! Thank You! for the reminder.

Deer-resistant Plants

Ordered April 17

2 Agastache 'Kudos Coral'
1 Agastache 'Kudos Silver Blue'
1 Agastache 'Kudos Gold'
1 Agastache 'Cotton Candy'
1 Agastache aurantiaca 'Coronado'
1 Lavandula angustifolia 'Silver Mist'
1 Lavandula angustifolia 'Essence Purple'
1 Salvia 'Ultra Violet' (not sent)

Romence Gardens

4/17 Added on to ship with previous order above

One additional Verbena 'Superbena Royale Iced Cherry' (making two for the order)
1 Lantana 'Luscious Berry Blend'

edited to add.....

that when the Deer-resistant Plants came the other day, sadly Salvia 'Ultra Violet' was sold out and not included. It wasn't sold out when I ordered it and I didn't get advance notice that it wasn't going to be included with the others. Four of the Agastaches had plant tags that were loose in the box and not with the plants. Don't know what tags go with what Agastaches until they bloom and hopefully, I can figure it out. All the other plants were on the small size when they arrived.

Good for you Marilyn!! I have to catch up with the forum- my mom had to go to the hospital so I haven't been on here for days. I hate missing out. My FBTS order is on its way- and since I last posted my second order I have added 2 more orders (to be combined of course). I am so excited as this is my first ever order from FBTS! My additions are:
S Patens Oxford Blue
S Patens Large form
S Coccinea Lavender Sprite
S Patens Elk Baby Blue
S Patens Chilcombe
All from my prior order are coming with these.

Also from my local family owned nursery:
(Moffett Nursery- is not online or mail order)
1 Geum Triflorum (Prairie Smoke)

It is a native- am going to add several native plants this year but most of my flowerbeds will be majority of Salvias and/or Agastaches.

Also my HCG order ended up being:
2 Scrophularia Macrantha (hummingbird fav)
2 Agastache Cana

Already have these and I LOVE the leaves on A Cana. I am sure I will love the blooms too!
