Hi, I'm new here. I have a balcony facing the north east and was wondering if these plants can do well in containers?

Generally most of the small ones will, but it depends on what zone you're in and the amount of daylight they will receive. This link will take you to our clematis database: The Clematis Database Then click on "search by characteristics", scroll way down the page to the "Containers" heading and check the box by "Suitable in 3 gallon on larger". Go to the bottom of the page and click "Search". It should show you approx. 160 of the clematis in our database that will do well in 3 gal. or larger containers.

I am new to growing clematis. I have one of the purple bell shaped flower. This is its 3rd year growing. I just cut this one back to about 12 inches, I didn't notice that green leaves were starting, before I cut it back. It is now April. Yesterday was in the high 60's. Last night it snowed. Zone 6. Should this plant be fertilized?
When? Now? please advise. thank you.

Generally clematis should be fertilized when the new leaf stems are an inch or two long and the ground temps are in the mid-50s. I usually sprinkle a handful or two of bonemeal around the base of each plant and add mulch, being careful to keep it away from the crown and stems of the plant. If you're still getting snow, I think I'd hold off for a while - you don't want to promote new growth if you're still getting freezing temperatures.
