Thread OP

I bought some Columbine seeds to start now in a large pot (I garden in pots on my deck) I know they don't bloom the first year. Did not know they needed to be chilled or how long they might take to germinate. Question is can I just sow them now for next spring and let nature take its course or will they eventually germinate too soon outside despite the heat?

Where do you live? It will be easier to answer your question if we know that.

Columbine seeds need a minimum of 3 weeks in the cold. I planted my seeds in a few pots then stuck them in the refrigerator. Other times I just put the packet in the refrigerator for 3 weeks before planting out in their permanent spot. It can take up to a month before they sprout so don't give up watering them. If they don't germinate this year there is still a good chance they will in the spring after getting their required coldness over the winter.

It would be nice to know where you are located. I think you have to go back to your profile to add that.
