We came from here, December 2016, that was so yesterday!! Smiling

The thread "Our Orchid blooms in December 2016" in Orchids forum

We had a wonderful year with great friends, lots of beautiful Orchids and plenty discussions, and now it is time for a new thread.
Let me start with the now fully open Cattleya Nancy Off 'Linwood'.

My little Phrag schlimii opened a cute bloom. This one spent the Summer together with Phrag pearcei in a floating ring in our small backyard pond, and sits now on top of the Aquarium.

And the Monn. Millenium Magic 'Witchcraft' is still hanging on after some weeks of blooming, but I would think it is going to fold soon. Bye bye!

The stripes are the light coming through window blinds, but I kind of liked the effect.

HAPPY (belated) HOLIDAYS to EVERYONE and my warmest wishes for a happy, healthy and bloom-filled NEW YEAR!!!

Sorry I haven't been around much...life just gets in the way sometimes, and there has been almost ZERO blooming in my yard, so didn't have much to share. You would think that when you have around 250 orchids SOMETHING should be in bloom...but no such luck around here! Shrug! I sure have been enjoying catching up and seeing everyone else's blooms though! Y'all have some beauties! Hurray!

Anna, isn't it going to be too cold in your area for the orchids to make it to you at this time of year?? I would think arrival site weather is just as important as departure site weather....??

What a lovely and variable display, Ted. I'm very fond of the Lou Snearly 'Bluebird' but my plant had at least 5 spikes that have all blasted - I'm blaming the thrips and my lack of spraying them this last month or so. Rolling my eyes. We're due for another shot of very cool weather next week so I'm bringing out the big guns and spraying dormant oil spray then.

I'm also going to look for that fragrant Zygo - very beautiful.

Lot's of nice blooms already this year. I agree that starting us off with Cattleya Nancy Off 'Linwood' was the perfect choice. Ted, very nice show, I like them all. My favorite is probably the Lc. Netrasiri Classtar.

Truth is, I've been sick as a dog with this cold. I went to church this morning and wasn't sure I was going to make it home. I have way too much to do to be sick. I did manage to get some photos out in the OC so here is a New Year's update:

Laelia [L.] Rocky Clough (L. gloriosa x L. undulata) Change Laelia to Schomburgkia for "old school information"

Just a $10 NOID Catt from Apopka:

Myrmecocattleya [Myc.] Memoria Louise Fuchs 'Weesie' AQ/AOS. This is a big plant.

Brassocatanthe [Bct.] Booth Lee 'Venice'. Another large plant.

Brassocattleya [Bc.] Hippodamia

Vanda [V.] Brighton's Ruby Jewel

Just a $3 Apopka NOID Dendrobium:

Great show's Ted and Jim..lots of different 'eye candy' between your two collections.
Jim , I'm with you on the cold situation ...it's been kicking my butt since last Tuesday!
Elaine, I've been noticing a bunch more damage these past few weeks, which I'm attributing to thrips..are they too small for the anoles to bother with? I've had some bud blast but a lot more plain old flower damage during the bud process and after opening. It is frustrating after waiting so long for the blooms! Grumbling

What a fabulous bunch of blooms, Jim. I absolutely love the NOID Catt - such lovely colors.

Sure hope you and Lindsey are feeling better soon - keep up with the Chai tea! My acupuncturist says it's full of "warming herbs" that will make you better sooner. (it's just the hot liquid, really but if you add honey there's an anti-bacterial factor) Rum adds a factor too, but it's more of "I don't care" than symptomatic help, I think.

Yes, thrips - I've been using more of the yellow sticky trap cards which help (catch) a lot, but obviously not quite enough - just noticed the damage on the sepal of my C. canhamiana coerulea2 X self, darnit. Second flower opened today:
