Hello,
So right by my Bright Eyes Sage I noticed that all these little seedlings started popping up. Well I didn't get too excited because I sow different seeds all the time and figured it was possible some of those had somehow made it over there via birds or something. Well I've been keeping my eyes on them and now that they are starting to get their true leaves I do believe they are a Salvia! The edges do look more serrated than I see in the bright eyes sage, but perhaps that's just because they're young leaves? I have several different Salvia in my yard so of course it's possible they would cross pollinate. Also bright eyes is a gregii hybrid so it very well won't necessarily look like bright eyes. Either way I am very excited! So funny that i had recently asked on here if I could collect seeds from bright eyes & nature went ahead & did it for me. If anyone could give their opinions on whether this is a Salvia that would be great!

@carlysuko

I don't know. Confused

Keep us posted as they get taller, larger and with any flowers.

Hopefully, @FBTS will chime in and know.

These don't look like Salvia seedlings to me. Time will tell.

I agree that they are not Salvia. The cotyledons (seed leaves) on these look nothing like Salvia. In addition, the true leaves appear to have palmate venation. Salvia leaves have pinnate venation. Sorry about that. Sad

I can't seem to find a photo of Salvia greggii or S. microphylla seedlings but here are a few pics of other species that will give you a general idea of the cotyledon shape for Salvias.

Thank you for the information...though it is a bummer haha. I will be really curious to find what they are after all.

They do, I've looked around my front, back, & side yard and kept an eye out in my neighborhood for anything that looks similar and nothing EXACTLY like it but then again they're still young so hopefully I will have a better idea once they grow older. Then I will know whether or not to pull them up Haha. If they are grape vines I guess the only way for them to get there would be by birds. Well actually a light bulb just went off, I have a few times thrown grapes out for the birds. Is that even a possibility? They were more than likely organic. Well time will tell exactly what they are. Thank you.

I am pretty sure it is grape or grape related and most grapes sold at stores are seedless, so it is most likely a wild grapevine deposited by a bird.

If you choose to wait and see what it is , you might want to consider potting it up. Wild grapevines can be hard to get rid of once they get a foot hold.

You could try posting your pics in the plant id forum too and try to get a few more opinions.
