Post what you're reading here - ebooks and physical books. If you have a physical book you're willing to send out into the world, offer it here as well. Let's talk books!

I am reading:
* The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene (ebook) - physics and string theory. Way over my head, but I'm pushing forward.
* Antiphon by Ken Scholes (ebook) - high fantasy. 3rd book of the 5 book series, The Psalms of Isaac. Love it!
* Valley of Horses by Jean Auel (paperback) - historical fiction. 2nd book of the Children of Earth series. Fantastic! This is available when I finish it.
* Personal by Lee Chiles (paperback) - thriller. Reading for a book group.

Hurray! Hurray! Thanks, Liz! I just finished all the Michael Connelly books. They are the ones that were made into the TV Series, 'Bosch'.

I get free ebooks from BookBub. The only physical books I buy are gardening books. The last one I bought was The Greenhouse Gardener's Companion by Shane.

I am currently reading "The Kill Room" by Jeffrey Deaver. He is one of me favorite authors, I have read most of his books. I enjoy his Lincoln Rhyme series and Katherine Dance series.

Karen, I really love that series on TV. Haven't read any of the books. I'll have to try one out. I have a couple on my bookshelves.

Hi Robin! I saw a Jeffrey Deaver book available on Amazon prime reading. Thanks for sharing that you're enjoying it. I'll try it out!

Liz, the books are actually much better than the TV series. The violence is there in the books, but isn't as graphic as the TV series. Sometimes the TV show is hard to watch. I keep covering my eyes!

Rj, that's an author I've never heard of. It sounds like something my dad would love. I'll pass that on to him. Thanks!

Karen, yes, I can do without seeing the actual violence.

I'm not in a book club at the moment. I used to be when we lived in the Marshall Islands. My youngest is in a book club, so she tells me what she's reading, and I usually end up reading them too. I have a couple of books she's given me that I need to get to. One is The museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman. The other is Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult.

I've never participated in a book club. I think I would have trouble reconciling club members' different impressions of a book with my own impression. If I read a book and then watch the movie, the movie is not how I imagined it, and I can never read the book again without movie scenes popping up in my head!

Books I have read and enjoyed recently:

Hugh Howley's science-fiction trilogy of 'Wool', 'Shift', and 'Dust'. I was hooked immediately by the vivid reality of the characters and the strange future they inhabit. Reading it, I was there with them.

Daniel O'Malley's books about Her Majesty's Supernatural Secret Service, 'The Rook' and 'Stiletto', in which British operatives with supernatural abilities battle all manner of dangerous creatures, some of which turn out to be no less monstrous than themselves. There is humor as well as horror. I was astonished to learn that the author is Australian and was educated in the US, as he writes so perfectly about Britain.

Sylvain Neuvel's series of 'The Themis Files' books, written in the form of memos and interview transcripts. The first one, 'Sleeping Giants', was so gripping that I am waiting impatiently for the next volume 'Waking Gods' to arrive in paperback (I refuse to spend twice the money on a hardback that won't fit on my bookshelf).

Oh June! I read Wool, Shift, and Dust a couple years ago when I broke my shoulder and was off work. They are so good! Best series I've read in a long time. Have you read anything else by Howey? Most of them are in the Prime Lending Library for Kindle, so after I finished the Wool series, I read these.

The Shell Collector - set in the near future where global warming has made shells rare - interesting
The Hurricane - coming of age story set in Florida in a hurricane - touching
Beacon 23 - set in space - loved it
Sand - the whole planet is buried in sand and people dive to find things to use - very dystopian
Halfway Home - colonists terraforming a planet - not my favorite

I'm writing down all your other books as they sound fascinating. Thanks for sharing!

Let us know how you like them. Did you like The Shell Collector? I had mixed feelings about that one.

I used to be an avid shell collector, so I got that book when I saw it. It was ok, mildly interesting, but I wouldn't call it a great read. I take it the other books are better?

RpR is being literal, Karen. He's answered the question, "What are you reading?" Hilarious!

By the way @RpR , the abbreviation you are looking for is Assoc. (like the thing that goes missing in the washing machine)

Karen, the Wool trilogy is fabulous. I really enjoyed The Hurricane and Beacon 23 as well.

My issue with The Shell Collector was the ending. I liked the protagonist. I felt the antagonist was somewhat of a cipher, which meant that their relationship seemed unlikely to me. But the ending just wasn't satisfying to me, and that is largely why I can't wholeheartedly recommend the book.

I think he has some trouble with endings in a few of his books. And here's something odd. Even though I loved the Wool trilogy and it ended exactly how I wanted it to, I didn't like how he wrote the ending. His writing is generally very good. But I think he struggles with endings. Shrug!

Interesting, Liz. I've noticed that about a lot of the books I've read. I love the book and everything is well done, and then they end it too quickly without any detail, and it just is a big disappointment.
